I sincerely do not understand why people keep calling the 1-800 number:

1. they either need to just wait until their documents are processed, and the customer care can't do anything, or

2. they have a major problem in their application, and the customer care can't do anything.

Either way, it's a huge waste of time.

Really, there is no point to the USCIS having customer service reps. They have no information to give you, have no access to your casefile and simply read from a script. You'd be better off buying one of those old "magic 8 balls". Remember them? You ask it a question and the answer appears in the window...

 Beautifully put. So true!

The K-1 Visa journey for myself and my two K-2 children:

K-1: NOA1 2011-8-10; NOA2 2012-1-12; Interview 2012-4-24; Visa issued 2012-9-17; POE (Sarnia) 2012-9-26; Wedding! 2012-10-02
AOS: NOA1 2012-11-20; Biometrics 2012-12-14; AP/EAD approved 2013-1-11; Interview 2013-1-31; 2-yr Green cards in hand 2013-2-9 (101 days total)

ROC: NOA1 11-7-14; Biometrics 12-1-14; 10-yr Green cards ordered 4-13-15! (157 days total)

Counting down to naturalization time!

I was a CSR once so I can totally understand that they're fed up with talking to angry people, but it is their job to provide the best service they can.

So for USCIS call center people, since they really can't do anything for your case, the only thing they can do and thus should do, is to be friendly and sound supportive. Sounding bored or aggressive is just gonna make things worse for everyone, because it drives callers mad.

So I never lose an occasion to remind them of that and advise them to go back to customer interaction management training

That said, if you feel a CSR is not going to be helpful, just say goodbye and hang up, and call back if you need to. Trying to get something from someone who won't help is a waste of time.

I did that the other day with an NVC rep whose tone I didn't like.

Ok, and how helpful it is to call once a week for 4 months straight, just to hear another representative read the same script? When I did not receive my AOS biometrics appointment in months, I called once, didn't get anything useful from them, never called again, went to my congressman instead, and in 3 days I got my appointment.
