MOSCOW — Russia's customs agency says it has seized radioactive metal from the luggage of a passenger bound for Tehran.

The Federal Customs Service said in a statement that its agents found 18 pieces of metal Friday at Moscow's Sheremetyevo airport after a radiation alert went on. It says the gauges showed that normal radiation levels were exceeded by 20 times.

The customs agency said prosecutors have launched a probe into the incident.

The Interfax news agency says the pieces contained Sodium-22, a radioactive isotope of sodium that could only be produced at a nuclear reactor.

Sodium-22 is a positron-emitting isotope with a remarkably long half-life.

This passenger was found-out, I can only imagine how many private aircraft are transporting radioactive materials from Russia to Iran and other suspicious countries? Very concerning!

I can still remember when Iran was our best friend in that region and sold us cheap oil. That was up until the worst president we've had in modern times, Jimmy (peanut farm boy) Carter, let the Shah of Iran fall. He could have prevented that but being the idiot he was, he sat back and let him fall. The thanks the Iranian crazies gave him was to attack our embassy and hold 50 hostages for 444 days. The Iranians have being messing with us every since.

I know people will defend Carter and say it goes back a long way...blah blah blah...but the lesson is when a dictator falls who's our friend, we always get enemies after they fall. Always. We all remember Castro...yes?

THe captain and crew were taken prisoners...beaten and abused...and what did we do. Nothing. After a long period of captivity they were released. Another shameful period in history.

We should have let MacArthur handle the war the way he wanted. Today things could be quite different.

I am not advocating a conflict with any regime. I applaud the Russians for intercepting the sodium-22 before the shipment could be transported to Iran. Where, or to what terrorist group it was ultimately destined for is my issue of concern. I remember the Pueblo incident well. Good riddance to Little Kim, the despot!
