Received notification of EAD

So I got the email from USCIS telling me my card is in production.

This means my EAD Was approved, as far as I know.

Am I now "legal" to work? Do I have to go to the SS office and have anything removed from my SS card or a replacement or anything? Can I go to an employer and get a job?

(I have one lined up).

You are now legal to work though you'll need the card in hand to actually start working.

If your SS card just says "not valid without work authorization" (or something similar, can't remember the exact phrasing) you don't need to change it as your EAD is your authorization.

I was actually advised to get my SS card changed once I was legally allowed to work. The office then issued me another card without the phrase "Not valid for work (or whatever it says). As far as I know it does state on the SS website that once your work/immigration status change you should tell them.

Your are not eligible for a unrestricted SS Card yet, so going to the office is useless. If you got a new card now it would still say "not valid without work authorization" on it. The EAD is your work authorization. You can get that wording removed once you get your GC.

If you had a card that said "Not valid for employment" that may be why. Most of the time, the card says "valid for work only with DHS authorization." If the original poster has the first type of card, they can get it changed now, but will end up with a card that says "valid for work only with DHS authorization." If they have the second, they can't.

I already have the "not valid without..." type.

So according to the DHS/SS I am legal to work, yes? I don't actually have to wait for a piece of paper/card in my hand?

I assume my SS# is now valid to work and I won't get deported or shot for working now.

You are legal to work, but you do need the EAD in hand because your employer needs to have a copy of the required authorization.

Ah... Ok.

I figured the number would be all in the database and it would all be electronic or something.

Found out from my prospective employer that she's not hiring until after the Christmas rush - newbies slow them down
