How hard is it to analyze market trends and see which jobs will still be there in 10, 20, 30 years?

This is like all those idiots in high school who wanted to be artists. I'm glad people have dreams, but you have to make yourself marketable in a skill that's still going to be around in the future. If you don't, it's not my fault and I hate paying for your stupid @$$. (Not you, in particular, but you as in all the dummies that thought they could be porters or elevator operators forever.)

I know a lot of rich artists, but then, Im an enthusiastic patron of the arts. it's great that there are artists in this world. I like them so much, Im sponsoring the formal training of several, as is the tradition.

Your analysis is still simplistic and rather unrealistic, considering that the economic system is primed for career obsolesence.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Hey, Nathan, your siggy needs to wrap. Its running off the screen.

Thank you, I will update it sometime in the near future ;)

It actually comes out perfectly fine on my desktop, which I am on now, see:

But when I am on the laptop I notice the same thing.

I'm not sure why that is, it might have something to do with this desktop using Linux as the OS?

It's stretching out my screen big time and I use a wide screen monitor.

Not saying there won't be artists. Just saying not everyone can be one. As such, should we, the taxpayers, support everyone who wants to be an artist yet is unsuccessful?

What I keep hearing from people is folks who are unsuccessful in their careers should be "helped" by the rest of us. I disagree. If you can't find a job or career, that's nobody's problem but your own.

You realize you are on the extreme end of the political spectrum.

Well in general UI is just an insurance program. Regarding the extra tiers that were added, that has nothing to do with a person's profession. Almost every profession has experienced long term unemployment.

We support unsuccessful corporations, banks and government agencies. Not saying that that's ok, but I we're talking about out of work and underemployed taxpayers, many in their situation through no fault of their own.

I disagree. The public education system raises the masses to work for others, as you said before, just go to work each day and you should be alright. Well, that used to work, but not anymore, and that change is rather new, not more than a generation old. The school system has yet to change from that model and higher ed is getting to be prohibitively expensive for those who need it the most.

So?

Do you really want a country where McDonald's is the economic model? I doubt that you're part of the 1%, but you're sure sounding like it. I am part of the 1% and I don't buy "too bad for you" as a panacea for our economic woes. We need to fix this coz we're heading to third world status on a rail.

One of the hardest hit is IT; IT is current technology and its practitioners are well educated. That company I mentioned before fired all of their IT staff and outsourced everything to India and the Philippines.

From Middle Class to Poverty in Three Years

By S.L. Carroll | Yahoo! Contributor Network – 5 hrs ago

COMMENTARY | According to an article by the Associated Press, the newest census data states that almost 50 percent of Americans are living in poverty. I'm in shock. I didn't realize it was that high. Economic indicators would have everyone believe that the economy is getting better, but 50 percent of Americans living in poverty tells me that it's not getting better.

Unfortunately, I know how poverty happens. I also know how to dig myself out of it, but I need a robust economy to do it. We don't have that despite the fact that new unemployment claims have dropped to 2008 levels, and "fewer people are seeking unemployment benefits than just three months ago," says the Associated Press.

The bottom line is that fewer people are eligible for unemployment benefits. More people have exhausted their benefits, and even more still can't find full time, living wage work. This absolutely explains the drop in unemployment applications and the rise in poverty levels. Those people who are out of benefits are being thrust into poverty.

What's worse is that most of those people aren't eligible for government assistance. Even with zero income, if the individual still has a savings account with more than $100 in it, they are not eligible for food stamps, heat or rent assistance. I should know. I looked. In order to be eligible in my home state of Indiana, I have to have an income of less than $150 a month. I make $800. I have to have less than $100 in my checking and savings accounts. I have more than that. The final qualification is having monthly rent/ mortgage and utilities that are more than my monthly income and all my liquid resources. I still don't qualify. If I did qualify, they'd just hand me food stamps. I'd still lose my place to live.

In fact, when I add up all my income, liquid resources and investments, I have more than triple what would qualify me for assistance. It doesn't matter than I'm probably going to run out of money in three months. I'm just flat out not eligible even though I only make $9,600 a year before taxes. That's a 75 percent decrease in my income from 2009 to today. My unemployment benefits ran out Nov. 1, and I am now 100 percent on my own.

Despite what the government thinks, I'm living in poverty. I can't afford food. Scrapping together enough money for rent and electricity is a challenge, and I'm one of the many people who have fallen from middle class to poverty class in the last three years.
