She's French.

Her parents were born and raised in Morocco which is about as French as Turkey is. She will do just fine in Morocco where she can wear a gunny sack over her head for all they care. A one way ticket to Marrakesh.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

I don't see that there is any rationale, or legal standing to revoke her citizenship, or send her anywhere. But I have to ask Sofiyya, what would you suggest be done here? The French people have a long history of being very secular. It would seem you would prefer that the nation change their laws, and a part of society itself to accomodate a small(ish) group of people.

Once word gets out that the French are sending people back to wherever if they don't conform you watch and see how quick those people get in line with the system. You think their going to give up living in a Western country for their values? They would sell their own mother if they thought it would help them stay.

I think you underestimate the resolve of Muslims in France. I don't see the law changing anytime soon, but I see no legal grounds to send them back to a nation they have never seen. The article in the OP does not delineate whether or not she was an immigrant or a natural born citizen, but I think that is the only way you could deport her. If she was born in France, there are no grounds for deportation, whatsoever. It's a tough situation.

As citizens and residents alike, we all have to obey by the laws of the country we reside in, even those we don't like. I can give you a pretty substantial list of U.S. laws I dislike very much. However, if I choose to disobey any of those and get caught, I'll have to take responsibility for my actions. That's not different in the U.S. as it is in France.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

Deport em if they won't conform. It's a bad mix to begin with and it's not like it's going to get any better. Muslim countries tend to be stuck in time due to their culture and religion, and it's reason enough to make a stand while sending out a message at the same time. Like I said, those people would outright sell their mothers to stay in the West, and if they think they are going to get a one way ticket back to wherever they will conform quicker than you can snap your fingers.

I think fines are an option, but would it be ok if the Saudis jailed women for not wearing veils?

Yes, if that's the law of the land in Saudi Arabia.

If she had what amounts to a bench warrant out for her arrest due to unpaid fines, then sure jail time is the law. Thats independent of the veil.
