Hello everyone. Happy holidays!

Based on my timeline, supposing I will get my GC on Feb or March 2012, my husband and I are planning to go on a cruise in Caribbean. Is my GC, Philippine passport and AP doc (I know this is only for travel for more than a year) enough to go there and come back?

And on September-December 2012 I will be going back to the Philippines. I was worrying if I will have some issues regarding being out of the country twice as long as I'm not outside the US for more than 6 months. Please enlighten me about this 6 months thing

You can travel with the AP card. You can travel with the GC. For internation travel you will use your passport as the official government issed document so make certain the name on the tickets match the name on your passport. For re-entry to the US you will use the AP card or your GC when you receive it. There is no limit to the number of times you leave and return as long as you reside in the US for more than 6 months each year for maintaining your LPR status. If you plan to naturalize than you may want to look at how long periods of time outside the US affects that timeline. For the most part short trips for vacations have no impact. It is those people that want to return to their homecountry for long periods of time that can run into problems.

Good luck and enjoy your trips.

Your GC and passport will be sufficient for your cruise, take your state issued ID with you also.

It is likely that a Philippines passport holder will need a visa at every non-US port. Do your research before booking the cruise.

Thanks for the replies :) Now I know I shouldn't be out of the US for more than 6mos to maintain my LPR status.

I looked at The Bahamas and it says there they won't require a Bahamas Travel Visa if I don't intend to stay for more than 30 days. All I need is a GC. I need to double check though.

I believe you can do that. However, you definitely want to check with your travel agent and/or check the cruise line's website because there are strict rules about it.

This issue came to my attention because Chinook and I are going on a cruise to Alaska next year and Chinook's Filipino passport is still in her maiden name.

Okay we will check. We were initially planning an Alaska cruise but since we live in the midwest, we won't be needing any more cold weather for a vacation. Thank you!
