New York charity abets Israeli settler violence

The Brooklyn-based Hebron Fund supports groups attacking Palestinians

By Jared Malsin

On June 18, 2007, a nonprofit organization called the Hebron Fund held a fundraiser on a cruise ship in the Hudson River to support Israel settlers’ occupation of a Palestinian house in the West Bank city of Hebron. Some 250 people paid a minimum of $65 each for the “Cruise ‘n’ Schmooze.” The proceeds went to support the settler who had taken the property from the Rajabi family, who denied the settlers’ claims that they had legally purchased the home.

A year and half later, Israeli police using stun grenades carried out a government order to evacuate a group of some 100 settlers hunkered down in the four-story hilltop. The house had become the center of a crisis when the Israeli government ruled that the building had been illegally seized from the Rajabi family, and ordered the settlers out.

Once evicted, the settlers commenced a rampage that lasted several hours, setting fire to Palestinian houses, olive trees and cars. Twenty-five people were wounded, including a man in critical condition after a settler shot him at close range. A Palestinian Red Crescent official told U.S. Consulate officials that during the riots, settlers stopped an ambulance and defaced the ambulance, painting “let the Arabs die” and covering the red crescent symbol with the Star of David.

The Hebron Fund is just one of more than 40 organizations that have raised some $200 million over a decade in tax-exempt donations for Israel’s West Bank settlements, a project that places them in violation of U.S. foreign policy and international law.

...

Public records in the U.S. and Israel show that the Hebron Fund maintains deep ties to the radical fringe of the Israeli settler movement.

Tax documents show that the Hebron Fund sends money directly to its Israeli sister organization whose director and founding officers include two men convicted of terrorism by the Israeli government for their roles in deadly attacks on Palestinians carried out by the Jewish Underground in the 1980s.

The Jewish Underground carried out a string of armed attacks on Palestinians, and even plotted to blow up the iconic Dome of the Rock mosque in Jerusalem. The group was shut down when Israeli police arrested 27 people over those and other attacks.

...

In this neighborhood, the Abu Ayesha family lives on one side of a dead-end street. On the other, settlers. The Palestinian Authority helped the Abu Ayeshas install metal screens on the exterior of the house to protect it from rocks thrown by settlers, giving the whole building the appearance of a cage.

When B’Tselem, the Israeli human rights monitors, distributed cameras to the Palestinians living in the caged house in 2007, they recorded startling scenes of settler children throwing stones at the cage. In what became something of an iconic video, a settler woman peers through the screen repeatedly hissing, “#######! #######!” at a woman inside.

That’s what the Hebron Fund is paying for with tax-deductible U.S. contributions.

The radical Orthodox Jews are starting to get a foothold and are changing the way the Israeli government operates. They are making Israel into another nutter country. If you look at the recent changes to the laws in Israel in regards to women's rights, people of other nationalities rights, and even with the IDF in regards to letting those nut case rabbi's troll along with the military you will notice those idiots have way too much pull these days. Settlers have even went as far as to attack an IDF base last week. Israel needs to crack down on them and clean house or they are going to be in a world of hurt seeing how so many Jews are leaving Israel these days instead of sticking around. Israel says it's due to economics, but they interviewed a few of those Jews who immigrated to the US and Canada and they said it wasn't economics so much as it was the freedoms there were shrinking. Secular Jews are leaving Israel in greater numbers year after year just go get away from the Orthodox nut cases.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

The Israeli leaders who denounce Jewish terror are responsible for it

'He who sowed the wind should not feign horror when the Jewish terror storm comes. He who demands silencing the muezzin should not fake surprise when a mosque is burned.'

By Yossi Sarid

The flood of condemnations has not put out the fire. The torch procession is still thundering toward the Temple Mount mosques, to the great conflagration that will rage in all corners of the Temple. The denouncers can prepare their fire extinguishers and fire-and-brimstone preaching.

"The IDF is us," writes the head of the Yesha Council of settlements, characteristically washing his hands until the storm subsides. Indeed, this is what the Israel Defense Forces looks like - a settler militia. Moles have gnawed at its foundations, leaving but cardboard props. For a long time it hasn't been clear whose authority it answers to and rabbis have defeated the commanders. The general in command is deluding himself. He is not the commander in the area. Will a stone to the head make him understand?

The hue and cry rises this time only because the brigade commander has been attacked and his lieutenant wounded. No cry arose five days ago, when Mustafa Tamimi was shot and killed at point-blank range. This case too will be closed for lack of evidence or lack of public interest, like hundreds of cases before and since.

"It's only a handful, the settlers are a law-abiding community," people keep saying, worrying about angering the settler leaders and their followers. The whole country is filled with handfuls - a handful of settlers here and a handful of ultra-Orthodox there, not to mention a handful of nationalists.

For the record, all the settlements were built against the law, and now they're trying to sanitize the latest ones, on stolen private land. True, Ariel Sharon, Shimon Peres, Ehud Barak and Benjamin Netanyahu all stood by the cradle, but still a ####### was born. They were all accomplices and one crime led to another.

So there is no need to be overly impressed by the orchestrated shouting about the Frankenstein that has gotten out of hand, because the denouncers are the ones who created him. They were warned a thousand times about creating a state within a state, an army within an army, but they didn't want to listen. They were too scared of the settlers and their rabbis. We see them in their disgrace, dancing in front of Zionism's coffin, and despise them.

You are losing this country, as you knew it, as you loved it. Perhaps you have already lost it, while you were sleeping. No more "rogue element" or "weed" - it's the whole orchard. The rotten apples have fallen too close to the diseased tree.

He who sowed the wind should not feign horror when the Jewish terror storm comes. He who poured oil on the flames should not pose as a firefighter trying to put it out. He who demands silencing the muezzin should not fake surprise when a mosque is burned. He who pardoned the first Jewish-underground murderers and the Shin-Bet Bus-300 murderers should not shudder when he meets those murderers' successors on the hills.

An incredible tale - dozens of terrorists raid an IDF base, wreak havoc and nobody is arrested. No one. Where is the "holy cannon" when you need it - as David Ben-Gurion dubbed a weapon that fired on the Altalena in 1948. Where are all those pretending to continue in Ben-Gurion's path?

IDF soldiers should have shot rioting Jewish extremists, MK says

Former Defense Minister Ben-Eliezer responds to infiltration of dozens of right-wing activists into West Bank army base; Tzipi Livni: This is a struggle for Israel's character.

By Haaretz

Israeli soldiers should have shot right-wing rioters while they assaulted army personnel, Labor MK and former Defense Minister Benjamin Ben-Eliezer said on Wednesday.

Ben-Eliezer's comments came after some 50 settlers and right-wing activists entered a key West Bank military base early Tuesday morning and threw rocks, burned tires, and vandalized military vehicles. Right-wing activists also assaulted a top Israel Defense Forces officer.

The settlers were acting in response to a rumor that the IDF would act to evict a West Bank settlement in accordance with an August Supreme Court ruling.

Referring to the incident on Wednesday, Ben-Eliezer, said that a "gang of criminals took a brick, slammed it in the [iDF officer's] face and nearly killed him. It's a sham that no one was arrested, it's a shame that no one fired, that no one responded."

"What happened yesterday is terror, pure and simple, terror," the former minister said, adding: "I don't differentiate between Jew and Arab when someone's trying to kill you."

Opposition Leader and Kadiman chairperson Tzipi Livni also referred to recent attacks, saying that there was a direct link "between the exclusion of women from the public sphere and assaults on army officers and the burning down of mosques."

"This is an ideological wave that wishes to institute a different country here with a world view that forces something that is unrelated to a Jewish tradition on a secular majority," Livni said, adding: "This is nothing less than a struggle for the nation's character sponsored by [Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu's silence."

Earlier Wednesday, arsonists set fire to a deserted mosque in central Jerusalem, also a noted Muslim historical site. There was no structural damage reported and the damage mainly consisted of the blackening of walls and graffiti reading “Price Tag,” and anti-Islamic phrases.

Later on Wednesday, settler leaders, who have been denouncing the recent violence against the IDF and Islamic places of worship, began attacking the left for its zealous attacks on settlers, saying that the left was not interested in stopping the violence, but rather only in attacking settlers.

“It is difficult to free oneself from the notion that many of them [the left] are not really interested in the wellbeing of Brigade commander Efrayim, and all they want is to attack settlers politically, harm their public image, and possibly physically hurt them,” said Danny Dayan, chairman of the Yesha Council of settlements.

“We will continue decisively fighting the violence undeterred, but also the hypocrite left that is only interested in destroying all that was built in the West Bank,” he added.

“The Council of Samarian Settlers demands that Netanyahu insures that the new special taskforce he is putting together will first of all forcefully deal with the serial rioters, that weekly disrupt the work on the security fence, harming the IDF’s soldiers and officers with stones and Molotov cocktails, and vandalizing military vehicles,“ the council said in a statement.

“It is inconceivable that the Prime Minister act in such a hypocritical manner, and use all the forces at his disposal to deal solely with frustrated Jews, while ignoring the relentless lawbreakers well-known to the security forces “, the Council added.
