DS-230 Package

Hi ,

What I am reading indicates that ORIGINAL copies of documents should be submitted to NVC with the DS-230. But I also heard that original documents should be brought to the embassy for the interview! Which is it, cause they can't be in two places at the same time!

What's an original copy? A document can either be the original, or a copy.

You have to send original/certified copies of both the birth and marriage certificate in the IV package. You also have to include PHOTOCOPIES of both those documents.

You won't need to bring those documents to the interview as NVC will have forwarded them to the embassy/consulate. Once the interview is over and successful, then the original/certified copies will be returned to you.

haha, you are right, I meant original, not original copy. So now I understand that I have to send originals and photocopies... I really don't like sending the originals in the mail, because if they get lost we are looking at months to assemble them again.

Use a good courier service like FedEx or UPS and you'll be fine. They will return the originals to you at the interview and you won't have to worry about bringing or forgetting additional paperwork to the interview.
