Ok, I'm almost done with electronic processing and I just paid my IV bill tonight (waiting for that to process and getting the rest ready).

I have the DS-230 package mostly done except for a couple of things:

Hukou translation - all that my wife got translated in the white books contains information about her and her father only - as in, the householder is her father, and it has her relationship to him. Nothing about her mother - the NVC website says that the translated information that is submitted needs to have information about her too. The wife originally went in and requested to get the translation done for 'immigration' reasons. Did she make a mistake here?

Passport page- just the first page right? Anything need to be translated here? I would imagine not...

Additional documents for Guangzhou: http://travel.state.gov/pdf/pk3_supplements/GUZ-SUP-MULT-0004-0904.pdf

When does that get sent in?

Passport Bio page is all that is needed. As for the Hukou being translated I'm not sure where you got that information. For the CR-1 at NVC, we sent Her birth certificate (translated), the police certificate (translated) and her passport bio page along with the DS-230 (sign first part don't sign second part) And of course the I-864 packet and all the financial info. If you're doing EP for a CR-1 then there isn't really a packet 3. Did they send this to you or did you pull it from a website?

That pdf is sent with the IV Bundle also, that is the GUZ P-3 supplemental sheet.

1. Additional documents for Guangzhou - that's the GUZ IV P3 supplemental, it's sent in with the DS-230. It's an ugly form, just used to get the exact address of the beneficiary. IMO, it's one of the last chances to gather the correct address.

2. Hukuo translation white book? Not heard of that being used, except to show family relationship when applying for any relative, and even then, it's optional.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

From here: http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3195.html

Birth Certificates

You (and any family members immigrating with you to the United States) must obtain an original birth certificate issued by the official custodian of birth records in your country of birth, showing your date of birth, place of birth, and parentage Important Notice: All Immigrant Visa applicants must submit a long form original birth certificate. Short form birth certificates will not be accepted.

The certificate must contain the:

Your date of birth

Your place of birth

Names of both parents

Indication by the appropriate authority that it is an extract from the official records

Is the entire hukou supposed to be translated in the white books? I thought it was just a standard thing that is done, whoever requests the translation brings in the required documents (red books, police reports, hukou) and they translate everything and assemble it into the white book.

Another new problem: I got a checklist from NVC today that says the IV bill hasn't been paid (it has, and it has been marked as paid in the online payment center). Is this all just messed up since the AOS stuff has been sent before the DS-230 stuff? I should just send the IV checklist/receipts when I email this DS-230 package right?

The AOS package is usually sent in first, so that is not your problem. The IV bundle (DS-230 and documents) should include these and any other applicable documents.!

IV Coversheet

IV Fee Receipt Marked PAID

DS-230 Part signed and dated

DS-230 Part 2 unsigned

Birth Record ( translated, notarized and certified)

Police Record ( translated, notarized and certified)

Divorce Record if applicable (translated, notarized and certified)

Marriage Certificate ( translated, notarized and certified)

Current Passport Biographic pages for your wife.

2 current passport photographs for your wife.

GUZ P-3 Supplemental Information sheet

You will also need to include any other records such as military, adoption and other civil records if they are applicable in your case! These documents will also have to be translated, notarized and certified!

Good Luck, Robby

re: the new problem - na, this is some programming error at NVC that's not been fixed these last 3 years.

Don't sweat it.. almost everyone gets this.

re: hukuo book - nope, rarely done. you got a birth certificate white book, instead? nota bene: a hukuo white book translation is not acceptable in lieu of a birth certificate white book translation. FWIW (this is really stupid, btw) - the birth certificate (in chinese) is generated on demand by any citizen, showing the HUKUO book to the registrar official. [and then the birth certificate is turned in for notarial translation, making a white book on the birth certificate].

Confusing, yes?

Damn, it looks like I'll have to tell her to go to the gongzhengchu yet again to get this 'birth certificate' created. Who does she ask when she gets there, just whoever she has been asking to get the translation done? I don't know how I got the idea that the hukou translation would be enough.

I saw this elsewhere on the forums:

带着你的户口本和身份证到你所居住社区的居委会开一张出生证明,然后带着户口本,身份证和出生证明到公证处办理出生公证.

So she needs to go to the office that created the hukou book first, then go to the gongzhengchu and translate it, correct? She's already angry for me about making her get the hukou translated, so I want this to be right.

there's a longish thread here:

white books - http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/228853-notarial-birth-certificate/

ignore the bickering, aye?

I'll assume that's where you got the info in your post 9 here.
