Hi Vjers!

My husband and I are almost ready to send in our IV packet. But the Police Certificate from Ghana got lost is transport. That certificate was $300 and it took 3 weeks to get. Before this we realized that we had put the wrong dates (that he lived in Ghana) on the I-130 application because my husband didn't live in Ghana for more then 6 months consecutively. So we thought we were stuck to get this certificate. Is there anyway around this? Is there anything we can do? Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Ok. I'm not sure if they have that in the Ivory Coast. The Document was going from Ghana to the Ivory Coast via a local company. So I'm not sure if they do that or not.

What about talking to the Consulate? or calling NVC?

File a lost mail claim with the local postal service?

you are going to be tossed around between two postal organization of two countries and it takes about 30 days beofre any inquiry is started. I thought my mum's police report was lost in transit too. When I contacted USPS , I was asked to contact Nigerian Post office(NIPOST) and when I sent my sister to their office and also emailed NIPOST, we were asked to contact USPS as they had mailed it  Thank God it arrived eventually.

First I am curious why a police cert will cost $300( that is a lot and I totally understand why you dont want to pay that amount again. Even in Nigeria , the cost is not up to $50!!! did you ask any of the ghanians VJ members how much they paid ( you need to find this out in the event the decision is to get another police report).

it seems the thing to do is get another police report, use registered/certified or courier mail next time.

As it is your file is already out of USCIS( they look into your I-130) and now with NVC... hopefull y you get some help on if and how you can notify USCIS?NVC to correct info (wonder how that works at this stage.

If you're asking if USCIS or NVC will waive the requirement, they won't. One way or another, you need to get the police certificate. If it was sent with a local courier, check if they have any minimum insurance or anything. And use a different courier next time, if possible!

February 1, 2011: Received Notice of Action 1.
