Hi,

We just got lab results back that stated that our youngest daughter tested positive for TB exposure. She does NOT have active TB, just the exposure.

According to the department of health our daughter needs to under go 9 months of treatment consisting of taking an oral antibiotic once a day. Once the 9 months are treatment are done the health department considers her cured. When I asked what the follow up was needed the health department worker said no follow up necessary after the 9 months of treatment.

We have been waiting for the test results to come back before filing our AOS. Can we file our AOS now or do we have to wait? :help:

I have requested written documentation from the health department on her test results for our records but I am not certain as to how this will affect her immigration.

My wife arrived in Aug and we got married in Sept so we got married well within our 90 day window but we have been struggle with the medical issues prior to filing their AOS.

Thanks,

Lyn and Art

I had to deal with this in my family. The “just exposure“ is called latent tuberculosis infection or LTBI. This can develop active tuberculosis at a later stage of life. You don’t need to wait for the test results before filing your AOS, no need to send any results, records or any thing in with your AOS. Follow the health departments recommendations for treatment after the 9 months you should receive a card showing that the treatment was completed.

Good Luck

What test did they use to determine your daughter was positive to TB exposure? Was it the skin test? Or, did they perform a smear test? Or a culture?

So I am confused. What is needed for the I-693? Just immunizations?

Thanks,

The test was the Quantifirn Gold test.

That is another story in and of itself. We went to one lab and were turned away when the lab said they didn't have an account with the department of health. We went to a different lab to have the test done. They tested both girls, the oldest was negative, the youngest had some issue and could not be processed so we took her back to have the test redone. I got a call a week later saying that the lab over incubated the specimen.

We ended up going back to the first lab, I had to call the department of health from my cell phone - they couldn't find a working number, to get the account mess straighten out, so that we could finally get this test done.

Thanks,

Lyn and Art

The way I understand it is with LTBI it is non-active TB, no spots will show up on x-ray and would not show up on a smear test so the tuberculin skin test performed by the Mantoux method is the most commonly used method for identifying TB infection. Recently, blood-based testing has become available as an alternative to the TB skin test such as the QuantiFERON TB Gold test. The(Gold Test) does not cross-react with BCG, this test will be particularly useful for testing individuals with history of BCG vaccination.

I have that problem too before but after I went to department of health here and they said it will not affect immigration processing.. so I go on and get the papers from them and mailed my AOS..that is just an exposure and not contagious so nothing to worry..but the papers will come from the civil surgeon first to department of health and back to civil surgeon and they gave me that sealed packet.

No such medical term as "just an exposure" it is, an 'infection.' latent tuberculosis infection AKA latent TB, or LTBI can go on to develop active tuberculosis disease . Infants and children under 5 years of age with LTBI, are at high risk for progression to disease. I'd say that's something to worry.

Of course, We will have our daughter treated as per instructions from the department of health. We don't her to have any short or long term health concerns. My question is about what is necessary from immigration perspective only. Is it necessary for her to complete treatment before applying for their AOS or can we apply now.

Thanks,

Lyn and Art

YES

I have never heard of any one denied AOS for a non contagious infection.

I'm about to file my AOS too and I'm class B. I did my sputum and X-RAY here in the US Health district and I'm still waiting for my result. Should I go ahead and file my AOS without I-693? My K1 will expire on Jan 16.

:help: Thanks.
