A complete scam, and not even a very well thought out one. Usually they will hire a girl to use the phone, etc. No way "she" doesn't have a phone and can only use the computer "at the library" at 11:30pm. Children have cell phones! Grandmothers have cell phones!

 So true!

The Orange Revolution was basically a flash mob assembled by SMS messages! And that was 7 years ago!

My MIL does not use a computer but she does have a cell phone. HOME telephones are not as common but they are fading fast here also

Definitely a scammer. I was originally on match.com too when I started getting these scammers coming after me. But, long story short, that piqued my interest since they were always way hotter than the normal women on match.com. I ended up going to www.elenasmodels.com out of curiosity and ended up married to a REAL Ukrainian hottie like 4 months later! lol Tell him, sorry he has been communicating (sort of) with a scammer and send him to a real website if he wants to find the real thing.

I too used Elenas Models and paid only $99 for a young blond Russian hottie who is now my wife.

I know one guy that sent a total of $ 5,000 to two different women in Russia and both were scammers. Yes, he was stupid but he had more money than brains.

The classic signs of a scammer:

1. No web camera (you have to buy them one... and this is how I got scammed )

2. No job (they are on-line always)

3. They can only talk during certain hours.

4. No way to contact them 24/7

5. Limited knowlege of her or family.

6. You can't verify their address (I sent a person to verify an address of a woman and I found out the woman didn't live there)

7. No Cell Phone (when I asked for a cell phone number, she said she didn't have one but even children have cell phones all over the world now. )

In many cases, the scammer is a man.

There are so many scammers in the Philippines that I found www.dragonladies.org and that helped me a lot. I learned if someone doesnt have a job.. then how do they eat.

Seriously if a Russian woman agrees to accept money, I think she is a scammer. Definitely if she has never met you in person. Alla would positively NOT accpet any money from me when we were engaged except for specific expenses realted to her moving here and then only after she had shown me all her income and employment information. we basically combined incomes to cover all the expenses. No way she would just go pick up a WU transfer. NO WAY!

Just so you are warned, a "friend" in Russia/Ukraine is a very powerful relationship and people have friends. Their friends will do anything for them. If a Russian woman suddenly finds herself in need for $1000, I assure you she can get it with a few calls to friends and have cash in her hand in a couple hours with nothing more than the assurance that she is a friend and friends pay back debts even if they have to work 95 hours per week at 3 jobs.

This scammer BS of needing money for medical expenses (they DO have socialized medicine you know)or whatever is BS. If she wanted a computer, she could get one. Today. A friend of her friend has a friend that fixes computers and he always has one or two he will sell cheaply with all the latest pirated microsoft software. In Russia there are only THREE degrees of separation

There is a very well established network for just about everything from a plumber that will actually show up and be only a little intoxicated, to attorneys, doctors, or someone to drive you around town.

It does NOT involve exchanging emails with strangers from the USA

I will say this, he found her on match.com. So do these girls also look for men using this type of site? He never went on to find a lady from another country but she contacted him.

sincere women do not do that. The scammers make profiles on these sites.

Go to a Russian/Ukrainian bride site if you are going to do that. Some of the guys here met their wivces that way and it is OK but there cn be scammers there also. I have no experience as to which is best, but many here do and some have already listed them.

I would say to correspond with many of the women and then arrange a trip to the country to meet them, meet several, and go from there. DO NOT offer money, profess love, or anything of that nature in emails. Discussing personal traits is OK, along with discussing thoughts and desires regarding a relationship. These women ARE looking for husbands, they are NOT looking for dinner dates or pen pals, keep that in mind. Nor are they interested in being your "#### doll" for a trip to Kiev. If you go this route you should be prepared to make a trip to Russia or wherever in the fairly near future, within 2-3 months I would say. Otherwise, respect their time and effort also.

That is WAY better than $49 for a GPS system but I am still going to buy one...THIS FRIDAY ONLY!

I met Alla "for free" but the price rocketed up from there! It was like a "teaser", yeah right, buy the razor cheap and then they reach in your nostril and pull out a lung for the replacement blades!

I just had the chilling thought that our wives could be nothing more than...SMART scammers!

Yah - match.com has issues with this.

Probably if you look at the profile - they will list they live in the US - but when you question them about it - they will claim they were confused.

(match.com drops scam listings from Russia pretty fast)

They will always contact you first.

I am curious why the "friend" in Canada can email strange women but can't do their own emailing here about their own plight?!!!

My friend is not from Canada. My fiance is from canada and the friend I am referring to lives here in Ohio as I do. He is a truck driver and is on the road all the time, so I mentioned to

him that I would drop a message here on vj and that I would surely get some answers for him.

Funny thing is, I just called him and read to him all the replies and he still makes excuses. He just doesn't want to hear the truth.

Thank you for your response.

Tell your friend to email this -

"I've really enjoyed our conversations for the last few weeks. We have such a connection and I feel an energy when I talk with you that I haven't felt in years. I too, am falling in love with you. Because of my feelings, I've decided to move to Russia so we can be together. I am a very wealthy man and have the means to take care of you - in your home - for the rest of our lives. I can't wait for us to be together.

Please send me your address and I'll be there as soon as possible. With much love, and with much hope for our future together,

Friend."

Funny, but most of these scammers have no interest in pursuing it once you call their bluff. I notice though your friend sent pictures. Perhaps she didn't like what she saw? Perhaps HE was being too forward? They've been emailing a couple weeks and he's sent photos of his home. Did he already ask if she wanted to meet his mom?

Online relationships have to be "different" from normal relationships because of time, distance, etc. They shouldn't be different for other reasons though. If you met a girl in a bar and she told you she didn't have a phone... you wouldn't call her back, would you? Why is that different on the internet?

Tell your friend under no circumstances should he send money. EVER. If he does, he's an idiot.

I just spoke to my friend and told him about your advice. I think that would surely tell him for sure what the truth is. hahahahaha. I like the idea.

And there you have it. Not that that will stop members here from giving 1,000 more pieces of advice and confirmation. It does mean your friend may have to lose some money before he figures this out.

This is exactly what her profile said on match.com

She said she lived right here in ohio only about a hour drive from my friend. Then when he mentions it to her, she acts confused and said it was a mistake.

I have shown him all the responses here and he is living in denial and makes excuses for her and is defending what her excuses are to him for why they can't talk on

phone or chat etc. Someone needs to knock some sense into him. :bonk:

Gary that cracks me up. I'll have to think about how smart of a scammer my wife each every time we go to bed.

I'm wondering who got more scammed, her or me?

No real surprise there. Would you want to announce to everyone that you might be taken in a scam?:yes:

You can only do so much and no more for your friend. If he still refuses to take your advice then allow him to learn the lesson for himself. It's his life. There are a million red flags popping up in this online connection. This has nothing to do with the Russian woman and everything to do with his naivete. :bonk:
