$200 billion a year. Wow, that's a big number!

But it is only 1/70th of a $14 trillion economy. So practically 0 - nada - nilch - nothing!

idk if i were an executive @ 1 of these companies, i'd like a shot @ a piece of that $200 billion & wouldn't do anything to decrease my chances of getting a bigger % of it.

I remember when they were saying that about Hispanics. It wasn't all that long ago.

My great grandfather started an advertising company in the mid-1800's. My grandparents made big money in advertising (and real estate) in Arab countries and Europe. The creation of need is a major tenet of ad businesses that look ahead to profit. It's not an industry where the smart ones stand still or consider any market a non-factor.

This whole ordeal makes me wonder if they did any market research into what t.v. shows their target market views. Clearly, if they were advertising on the show before, then they wanted to expand and target an market they felt they were not getting enough business from. Their intent was to increase the number of Muslims who shopped at their stores, but to some evangelical Christians, that is offensive. To those people, I don't think they will be happy until there are no non-christians in this country. If anyone should be offended it should be Muslims who shop at Loews. From what I have heard and read, the t.v. show is trashy and not at all representative of mainstream Muslims in this country.

Ironically, that's closer to the reality than the boycott. I watch it out of curiousity, but my husband refuses to watch. For one thing, the families are Shia, and Shia are only about 18% of all Muslims. They seriously know little about Islam, which makes me laugh at the idea that this was intended to teach American non-Muslims about Muslims. It does show there is a variety of practice and non-practice. At least they're not doing nakkid yoga in their living rooms, getting drunk and having lesbian orgies in bars, so Kip, you wouldn't like it :P

That 1/70th Muslim Money is not all going to Lowes. Take away housing and automobiles and food and medical expenses and clothing and everything else......Just focus on money from Muslims that is going to Lowes.

And then takeaway the Muslims who could care less which is probably 90% of them.

We are probably talking about 1/1,000,000th of our economy is money from Muslims purchasing things at Lowes.

Or even 1 / 10 millionth....A very small number.

That's the only reason to watch reality TV.

If the article is true and 60 other companies also pulled their ads then obviously there were more repercussions in letting their ads run than pulling them off.

Which brings up another point. Are you getting Americanized programming in Iran or some of the other harder core muslim countries? I doubt it.

Is there MTV Iran? The Real World or The Jersey Shore playing on MTV Iran? no0pb.gif

American programming is widely available, if not on the tube then on the net. The largest US export is its culture. Muslim folks know what's out there.

Kip?

I don't do the reality TV thing. I tried watching it once but it reminded me of getting a wisdom tooth pulled. I put it right up there with NASCAR and listening to Rap.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Please don't tell me you watch that #######. Any country in the world would be better off not having that on their TV. It's part of the dumbing down of America is what that is.
