Cincinnati is probably the most racist city in the Midwest.

My fiance is from Cincinnati. Let me ask him about it.

As of December 12, 2009 there had been 60 homicides in the city of Cincinnati.[46] In 2009, the CQ Press ranked Cincinnati the 19th most dangerous city in the United States.[47]

In 2010, there were 72 reported homicides and 41 of them have been solved as of February 2011.[48]

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

How so?

Our neighborhoods, schools, churches, businesses, etc., are highly segregated and there is a lot of tension between government officials and citizens, the citizens themselves, and the community as a whole. While there are parts that have integrated nicely, the tension is still there and rares it's ugly head way more often than it should in 2011.

What other major metro area has had race riots in the last 10 years?

We're going the way of Detroit in that our city is starting to "darken" it's government and most of the white population is fleeing. We're attempting to take black ownership of some of the problems of whats happening in our city - and that's a good thing - but the die has been cast. Part of the problem is, like all other major urban areas, we're trying to spend our way out of debt and what we've really done is chase the money away from the city to the county and Northern Kentucky.

A few major projects are in the works and there is still genuine interest in redeveloping our downtown areas but anyone on the ground - of either race - will tell you it's only a matter of time before it all implodes.

My fiance is from Cincinnati. Let me ask him about it.

Is he from Cincinnati or "the greater Cincinnati area?"

I've met a lot of people over the years who are "from Cincinnati" and then you get to talking to them and turns out, they're from Mason.

I've seen his ID and it says Cincinnati where he was born. He's already sleeping now so I would ask you instead. What is the difference for those terms? He left Cincinnati around mid 80's because he joined Coast Guard and stationed in Guam by now. Probably he doesn't know anymore what is going on at there. However, it seems he grew up in lovely town based on what I had been told except he said doesn't like the weather.Too cold.

We have a city that is in the center of a pretty large area full of people. However, the city stops at certain places and the administration is handled by smaller cities within the county or townships, and in some cases, the county itself.

The thing is, most of this county, and even some parts of the city, are great places to live. However, there are certain parts - almost all within the city itself - that are horrible and typically, race has a lot to do with it.

If you were to put faces on those 70+ homicides Kip posted above, you'd see a common theme.

In truth, it's not the race that matters. There are places in the city that are bad regardless of the race of people. It's an economic issue way moreso than racial. But, for some reason... it always gets blamed on race.

Out west it's different and it is a race thing. A person of color or race can walk in a white neighborhood and chances are they aren't going to be assaulted, robbed, etc... but if a white person walks in a non white neighborhood they are rolling the dice big time.

Same with drive by shootings in Washington, Oregon, and Alaska. Rarely if ever is there a white person involved. Some say it's because of poverty, yet I see those people driving around in car loads at 3am in the morning yet I don't see them putting out any job apps. It makes me wonder how they live in sh*t holes that they don't give a thought about keeping maintained yet they drive $30,000+ cars around while wearing clothes that most rednecks couldn't afford.

Agreed. I guess probably race (almost) always has to be blame for economy turbulent - race+economy=chaos-. It often happens anywhere including in my country. It doesn't shocked me to be honest.

ahh, but in oregon and most of washington anyways, there's plenty of white guys like the green river killer, or that serial killer in spokane, or jerome brudos, or dayton leroy rogers killing prostitutes and cutting their feet off to balance the decidedly rare driveby shootings that happen every summer, that even more rarely actually kill anyone.

that, and in portland anyways i'm a whole lot more comfortable in the very tiny predominantly non-white areas of this city than i am on 82nd ave with the meth heads and junkies that are 99% white.

Controversy drives advertisers from 'All-American Muslim' – or does it?

At least two advertisers have withdrawn commercials from "All-American Muslim," a new series on the TLC cable channel, since an activist organization called the Florida Family Association condemned the show. But others cited by the organization as pulling out as sponsors are disputing the claim.

The organization has attacked the series as propaganda that obscures "the Islamic agenda's clear and present danger to American liberties and traditional values." The series, which has been on TLC at 10 p.m. Sunday since mid-November, follows the lives of five Muslim-American families in Dearborn, Mich., a Detroit suburb with a sizable Muslim population.

The organization says 65 companies have left the show since it began urging advertisers to withdraw their support. Among those that have were Kayak, the travel Web site, and Lowe's, the home-improvement retailer.

However, at least three of the companies that the Florida Family Association included on its list of 65 say they have not followed the organization's call to end their sponsorships.

"We didn't pull" commercials from "All-American Muslim," John W. Faulkner, a spokesman for the Campbell Soup Company in Camden, N.J., said on Tuesday. Other Campbell Soup commercials "could run in subsequent episodes," he added.

The appearance of Campbell Soup spots during the series was part of a purchase of commercial time on TLC "between 7 and 11 p.m.," Mr. Faulkner said, rather than a specific request to be in that show. "We certainly support diversity and inclusion," he added, "and we market to everybody here in the United States, including Dearborn, Michigan."

Another advertiser on "All-American Muslim," Sears Holdings, which owns Sears and Kmart, also took issue with the contention that it had withdrawn from the show. "Any claim that we pulled our advertising in response to concerns about this show are inaccurate," Chris Brathwaite, a spokesman for Sears Holdings in Hoffman Estates, Ill., wrote in an e-mail.

The company's commercials previously appeared during "All-American Muslim," he said, "as part of a general media buy that was not specific to any particular programming." "Sears Holdings is proud to serve a diverse customer base," Mr. Brathwaite said, "which represents a true cross-section of America."

A third company, Bank of America, also disputed the characterization of its adplans for "All-American Muslim." Bank of America was scheduled to run a spot in one episode, on Nov. 27, said Ernesto Anguilla, a spokesman in Boston, and it ran as planned. "We had a schedule all along," he added, "and it was set to expire when it did."

TLC declined to comment on the matter, other than to say that "there is strong advertiser support for the show."

Why in the world do you guys think corporates have to sponsor a show that is muslim propganda?

Its their money and they can make a choice which show they want to sponsor, maybe these companies dont believe in any religion and does not want to sponsor a show that is only talking about one religion and its practioner in US.

I support Lowes they have full right to make a choice whom they want to support or not.

At least some companies have some balls. Glad to see they didn't cave to the christian nuts.
