The OP list contains 7 common 'distractions' but the proposed law covers just the first two, and the second is the clear while driving no no. And we still haven't eliminated the crappy drivers who can't drive well alone, stone cold sober, both hands on the wheel and trying their level best...

Why not simply add "cell phone usage resulting in an accident" as one of the offenses that gives a driver six or eight points, similar to vehicular assault or OVI. It wouldn't outright ban cell phone usage, however, usage resulting in an accident would be an offense. That way, folks who are good drivers and capable of doing simple tasks without killing people can continue to do so. Those who can't will be stripped of the privilege of driving an automobile.

The logical counterpart of that would be to say that a driver can only be guilty of DUI if an accident actually results

Or that the driver can go at 100 mph through town and if he doesn't crash or kill anyone, that no offense is committed

Or that firing a 50 caliber machine gun in the back yard on new year's eve is not an offense if there is no damage to persons or property

It's like the law that says you have to be searched before you get on a plane - whether you have a bomb or not - it's for everyone's good. It's called being a society and not just a feral individual who has no regard for anyone else's interests - in fact it's the case that having other peoples interests is ultimately selfish and rebounds to benefit the individual.

I refer back to when I said that we shouldn't think whether WE should be allowed to drive and text, but whether that person coming towards us at 70mph at midnight, should be allowed to drive and text.

I'm a redneck in a lot of ways, including my upbringing but I'm not big on the superstition thing and that's where god comes in. I don't believe in vampires, werewolves, banshee's, leprechauns, and the rest of that lot.

Same with new laws. I'm not big into a lot of laws being made and it's probably the reason Iv'e been in out of jail so much in my younger years, but I don't go for these peeps that jabber on the cell phone and then move right over into another lane without even looking for the fact they are so deep into their conversation. That's about the time I want to run them off the road, drag them out of their vehicle via their window and beat the holy fck out of them. I can't afford anymore assault charges so that's out of the picture....but the feeling is still there.

I see no need to shoot kids in the river or or any other place. I'm a soften when it comes to children (with limits of course), period.

I hold the parents responsible.
