What shook me was that these forums trace your IP address instantly and will point the militias at your house !

They'd have to get your real address from your ISP (Internet Service Provider). ISPs don't usually disclose this kind of information to strangers, although they are all too happy to hand it over to the government, even without a warrant.

They only inhabit their own websites and they have a positive feedback loop where they egg each other on more and more until they are in a frenzy and totally believe the 'one world order' and that he downed the drone to help his fellow Muslims and medicare is an appalling communist threat etc etc

Actually, I am not scared of them yet, but I think they are a bigger threat than ANY overseas terrorists - not because they are so organized, I don't think the organized members will do it - I think its the lone wolf crazies who get rabid shrieking foaming about Barry

I can hear it any day of the week in any gun shop in this area. Its all they talk about. The hatred is immense and their fantasies of killing him match that intensity.

I used to think it was fantasy stuff and people were having fun. I know better now and the fact that the tea party and extreme republicans tip their hat to it, makes it worse

It WILL end badly - look at the Giffords shooting and the white house sniper - its gathering pace and the hatred will drive them to organize against opponents (me), and take physical action, even if its only letting my tires down

In the meantime, be careful about which internet sites you inhabit and post on. If it isn't a balanced site like VJ, if its one where only ONE opinion is heard, then there could be trouble. Once they decide that you are an enabler of the antichrist (don't laugh - its how they talk), then its their DUTY to do something.

This may seem like a self-evident proposition, but when you go to radical right-wing militia web sites, it's probably not a good idea to give them enough information about yourself to allow them to track you down.

Yeah luckily I told them nothing - it was a shock though when the guy you are replying to, has access to your IP and thus your town and says "I live near you"

He figured out by some phrase that I was from Britain, so that was too close for comfort for me.

All the gun shops are on first name terms with me so I wouldn't take much tracking

I will look at some of these free VPN tunnels that cloak the IP if I ever want to peek over their fence (bunker)again

It isn't like Ilkley here is it ! but there again, it doesn't rain as much.

Wouldn't that mean he has killed hundreds of people in his lifetime? Every few weeks he must get pissed off and kill someone. Or maybe just threatens them?

I agree with you - I don't think he will do anything

However, the tone was unmistakeable - so the point of my post was to discuss our imagined anonymity and that the threat is not from the government but from the crazies in society

Thing is that the more they reinforce their extreme creed and the fairy tails about Barry, the more likely it is that one of their number will become more unhinged

So anyway - lesson learned - we are not anonymous and it pays to take precautions as octomom used to say

WE have a British fish and chip shop with a Union Flag flying over it

No tea, no mushy peas, no HP sauce - breaded goldfish fried in oil ! No wonder the americans dont know what we rave on about

Icelandic haddock done in batter, (not beer batter), no breading, cup of tea, mushy peas and bread and butter.....

Nearest fish and chips is Victoria, British Columbia - a 3 hour drive and a ferry. Even then they have never heard of dripping and say only oil is allowed by law in Canada
