I see that you need to be a PR for five years and other requirements before you apply for citizenship. My five years of being a PR will be in Jun 2013. I have heard that I do not need to wait till Jun 2013 to apply i.e. I can apply (N-400) three months before that and essentially in Jun 2013, I get my passport. Is this true?

How did you become an LPR? That may make a difference in when you are eligible.

You can apply no earlier than 90 days prior to the 5 year mark. From what you are saying that will be in March 2013. Processing takes a few months. Once approved and naturalized you can then apply for a US passport.

Anh map is absolutely correct. I just want to emphasis the point that it is 90 days and not 3 months... even if they receive it 1 days earlier, they will reject your application and return it to you... hence the importance of that number.

That's so true....

the interviewer told my husband that he did not had the right to send N-400 90 days before ... He said that his case is different then others and did not explain why it is so....

Thanks guys for your input. I have lived in Texas for the past 6 years, physically present for over 30 months. Let's say if I get a job in Dubai and move there in October of this year. Can I start working there and then come back to US in Mar 2012 (after less than 6 months out of US) to apply for my citizenship and then stay here till I get my passport. Is there anything negative with this approach?
