Something weird with my case at NVC - suggestions?

My case was received by NVC from USCIS@CSC on November 23rd.

I called, got a case number and was told it was in processing. I call again a few days later, they say it is done processing, now it was just waiting to be sent to the embassy. Sounds normal so far.

I call again about 1.5 weeks ago (early December, maybe 1st or 2nd). They tell me it is undergoing additional processing again. I asked about the previous status, the guy on the phone said he had no idea.

A few more calls and it was always the same thing, additional processing, and no idea about why it was previously finished.

On Friday, the guy puts me on hold for 5 minutes after searching and then tells me the same thing. Today, a different fellow blurts out something about it being "under review", then he shuts up really fast and goes back on script about additional processing.

I know I am probably getting paranoid, I'm long since out of patience with this entire process, but it sounds like something is going on and the phone reps are not telling me. Based on the timelines, it should have left NVC already.

Does anyone have some suggestions on who else I could call, or what might be up?

Go to the NVC forum, and look for the threads "Stuck at NVC", which is pinned, and the new one called Part 2. You are in AP.

I have read posts where you call and if you feel , your concerns are not being addresed, you can ask to speak with a supervisor. so why not try that... ask for someone with authority to tell you more about what is going on if anything. Go the your country's regional forum here on VJ and see if people from your place are experience similar delays at NVC if not give it couple more days and if no progress, contact your congressperson. best of luck!

While you can call and ask to speak to a supervisor, you won't hear much more than you already have. For the record the DOS cannot help, and neither can your congressman. Do have a read of the two threads I gave you the links to.

We were in AP at NVC for just short of 8 weeks. Times have come down form that now.

Calling any call center and asking for a supervisor usually just gets you a coworker (at least according to a friend of mine who worked at one :)).

I do wish they'd be more transparent about what it is about the petition that triggered this, even if it is pure random chance. I'd like to know if there is some red flag I have to address.

I was told at the interview stage it was random. They were as confused as I was at the time, as it was just when we went through there that they just started putting K1's in AP at NVC. There was nothing on Visa Journey about it at the time. That's why we started the thread :)

I can explain it to you. But I can't understand it for you.

"Random" is annoying, but at least not troubling, thanks. :)

Very annoying, I thought ;)

No worries, I kind of keep my eye open for questions similar to yours, just in case. I'm glad at least that now we know that they can do this. If I can help, let me know.

You are in AP, they do not discuss it. You will be notified when it is sent on to the consulate.

You are going to need a LOT more patience, you haven;t even begun the immigration process yet. This is just the visa, it begins when she arrives.

I suggest you stop calling altogether. You will be notified by mail.

We were not notified by mail, in anything LIKE a timely fashion. We were advised by the supervisor there at NVC to ring a couple of times a week. And we did. Upon finding that AP was over at the 53 day mark, and being advised by email from the AKL consulate that they had our Electronic copy, I was able to schedule the interview. I was also able to get packet three sent out on the basis of having the AKL number, and complete the medical while they attempted to find out what was up with AP at NVC for K1's. This was not done at the time, there was nothing on VJ to explain it. I had the interview, the Visa, and was here 3 weeks before NVC sent us anything to say they were forwarding our petition. Not counting all the notices we got early on that said they were, when they did not.

OP do not wait around. Keep on top of them. As our old thread was pinned, and the spreadsheet hasn't any new entries, all I can say from that, and monitoring present NVC K1 AP, times are down now to something like a couple of weeks.

I can explain it to you. But I can't understand it for you.

You're wrong on both counts. I'm not concerned with this process once she arrives. I will pay any fee, fill out any form they want, provide any paperwork, answer any idiotic questions, even provide them an intimate demonstration if that's what it takes to convince them we have a real relationship. The important thing is, she will be here with me and at that point I will no longer care about the process, other than my general disdain for bureaucracy.

I will call them daily, because as pointless as it may be, it's just become part of the ritual. And if lets me schedule the interview two days earlier than it would have otherwise, that's a win for me. You learn to take every win you can get with these people.

About the notification by mail, at least one other fellow going through the same embassy as me only found out they had his approved petition when his fiance was contacted over there to come for an interview.

You bet. I'll keep nagging them, and checking with the embassy too (the folks there are very responsive to email inquiries). If nothing else, perhaps the nagging demonstrates the seriousness of the relationship. :)

We were in AP at the NVC stage (for reasons that are still not apparent to me), but we were out of AP within 10 days or so. All went smoothly after that. Good luck!
