GOP to cut UI benefits

There are four tiers of extended benefits. The Republican plan would maintain the first, 20-week, tier and cut the second one, now available in states with a jobless rate above 6 percent, by one week, to 13 weeks. The current third and fourth tiers, which provide as much as 19 weeks in states where the jobless rate is 8.5 percent or higher, would be eliminated. A separate Extended Benefits program can add as much as another 20 weeks, depending on the jobless rate in the state. That program would expire gradually, state by state, through 2012.

Is this the right time to enact this? I'm thinking its about right personally.

Considering that when the benefits run out thos people are dropped off the employkent rolls and talen out of the "pool" it lowers the "unemployment rate" and makes Obama look good.

Rob and DaKine10 will be pleased to hear we are shutting off the flow of funds to frauds and bums. They are always saying that people that collect this are frauds and bums.

It is up to the states what UI should be and not the Feds.

Yes and no. There is State unemployment and Federal unemployment. SUI and FUI (sooey and Fooey) The state makes up the majority of it in most cases but they get money from the Feds to supplement it. If the Feds cut their portion the result will be less money to the states. The states can decide what to do with the shortfall.

States may reduce benefits across the board, or simply follow the Fed guidelines or they may find a way to make up the difference somehow.

Lets see if I can make it more simple. It is a state that should decide if and how much to pay in UI. The Feds should have no say so and should have NOTHING to do with UI at all ever.

I get my fourth and last extension starting January 7th, so I'm good to go. Gives me that much more time to sleep in.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

No need to make it simple, just make it correct.

"Should" is the difference. It "should" be that way. It is not.

It still "could" be, because any sate "could" simply make up the difference and keep benefits the same or even increase them. They will not. They will blame it on the Feds and most people will believe it.
