Last week I went down to the DMV for doing my written test for the Colorado driving License.

I showed them my documents:

- passport with I-94 form

- marriage certificate

- proof of residence

- bank statement to show joint account

- social security card

They mentioned I couldn't get my license and had to wait till the adjustment of status was done (which I just filed for a week ago)

and I could show them my greencard.

The other option was show them the I 797C Approval Notice and I could get a driving license BUT only valid for the time the

I-94 is valid (so that 's only one month more)

Does anyone have experience if this is indeed the case because on the DMV website I can't find the information if they tell me the

right way to follow in this process.

It is all dependent on the state. Many people have had no issues but some have had lots of issues depending on where they live.

In Nebraska I went in and got my license after taking the test on the computer. Only used my passport, my previous driving license from out of country, my marriage license and SSN.

Your I-129f was approved in 5 days from your NOA1 date.

Jenni successfully got a 1 year drivers license prior to getting her green card with an unexpired I-94 and the NOA's for the AOS/EAD, a stamped and signed Biometrics form, her SSN card and our marriage certificate. Not sure they cared about the Biometrics form, but showed it to them anyway. The lady at the DMV said that if we didn't show the NOA's she would have had to expire the license when Jenni's I-94 expired. Having the NOA's allowed them to provide the 1 year license.

This was in Virginia.

I'm also in CO, called the local DMV about a week ago to find out about this.

I have a CO license that expires in a few days (as it was tied to my J1 status), they told me, before I can get a new CO license, I'd have to have my EAD... So not the actual green card...

I'm not sure if it makes a difference if you haven't had a CO license before...
