I have a question about resumes.

How do you show a situation where your position was sold from Employer A to Employer B and your title chnaged, but your job description did not. Do you show it as two separate jobs? Or as one job? I'd rather show it as a single job but I don't know how to portray the title and employer change mid-stream.

Any suggestions?

on a resume you can put it as "Company A formerly known as (or formerly DBA ((doing business as)) )Company B" for the company itself.

For your title... I would use the Title A / Title B and then the description since they are all the same.

that wouldnt work.

because both company A and company B exist.

the little division within company A.. got acquired by company B.

so they both exist.

A few years back, I worked for a company that changed names, but I held two positions there I just put Company B-Formerly Company A and for title I put supermodel/rock star

obviously I wasn't either but you get the idea ;)

hope this helps

AS

I would list them as 2 different jobs...

I had the same thing happen to me... and that is how I listed them on my resume... but a brief note at the bottom... my employer liked the resume... and that the company felt I was valuable enough to keep...

Good luck!

I would suggest, as Faith suggested, that you list the job titles as Job Title 1/Job Title 2. For company name, list both one right after the other, but in the same entry. Also, you can mention in your bullet points, something positive that you did or that happened to you as a result of the change, even if your job didn't actually change.

I put it like this as one continued employment as far as the "from - to" span goes:

Company A, Division

(Formerly Company B, Division)

I just added the division because both companies have their hands in so many businesses that I felt it important to point out which business I was working in. Also, the former employer sold said division off but continued to exist with other lines of business.

ooh ok I get it now. You could put the current company name as the employer and then in the description put it was formerly assigned to the other company prior to present time.

So for the CSC to EDS transition, did your resume specify when the transition happened (I guess it doesnt matter) or did you only give them the start and end dates?

I just called my ex who works for Monsanto and he knows people that worked at the chemical division that was bought out for another company. He says that they left dates as cummulative dates as that's usually how the employer treats it anyway.

I did give start and end dates and documented they each company was a vendor. As the contract was resubmitted for bid a new company won each time. I finally got tired of that after about 25 years and took a position with the county!
