Hey all, I'm just wondering when applying for citizenship after 3 years of being married, is it a different process from just the 5 year LPR change. Also is it 3 years from the official date of the wedding? So for me October 18th 2014? Or from when I receive LPR docs?

It is from the date on your first green card. Not your wedding.

Your greencard will have date on it--LPR since xxxxx

It will be conditional and expire on that date 2 years later. You will remove conditions by filing a bunch of proofs of your marriage. Pay more $$$ too. You can file 90 days before it expires. You receive a 10 year card with at same date as the first card--LPR since xxxxx

Then 3 years from that date, you are eligible to apply for citizenship. You can file 90 days before the eligibility date. Pay more $$$ again.

So the earliest you would be eligible for citizenship in 2015 (if you sucessfully remove the conditions on your greencard and stay married to your wife.)

I naturally assumed that spouses got to apply sooner than people here on different circumstances.

i.e. 5 years LPR change: 2 years "probation" plus 3 to be eligible for citizenship. Where for marriage based I assumed through what I'd read and what I can remember 2 years "probation" allowed to apply 1 years after conditions removed, totaling 3 years. It's not something I'm even interested in right now anyway. Just curious.

I'd read it was 3 years for marriage based, 5 for other. But maybe that meant 5 after the removal of the conditions for everyone else.

What would hinder the removal of conditions? And trust me we'll stay married

Exactly as early as 3 years after that date you can BECOME a US citizen.

As early as 90 days before that magic date the USCIS can stamp your N-400 petition as received.

OP is probably confused because they only got their AOS notice of acceptance 2 days ago and doesn't have a green card ( is not a resident yet ).

Just a minor difference, for the three year marriage thing, require a wheelbarrow to haul in your evidence that you are indeed married. For the five year, your green card will do. Well your foreign passport as well to verify your residency requirements.

Have to admit to being a bit confused in how to bring my wife and stepdaughter over here, and had a lot more money than time, and never even heard of the USCIS. That is when I hired one of the top US immigration attorneys to guide me. But after that extremely long AOS process and how the USCIS operates did wear off on me. The I-751 and especially the N-400 was a piece of cake. Heck, its a repeat of the AOS stage and only two forms to deal with.

Certainly you been through the AOS and perhaps even ROC stages, so wonder why your questions are so basic.

I have not been through the AOS I've literally just started it. I've been in America for 2 months and know very little about citizenship. I hate to quote myself but:
