hey guys, am not sure if when filling out the forms, i should use my maiden name as last name or my husbands last name, or my last name hyphen his last name, what exactly do they want?

6/29/12 AOS Package mailed Chicago Lockbox

7/01/12 Package delivered

7/09/12 NOA email notification

7/14/12 Received hard copy of NOA in the mail

7/16/12 Received biometric appointment letter for 8/01/12

7/23/12 Successful walk in Biometrics

8/15/12 Received email for interview notice

8/17/12 Received interview notice in the mail

9/10/12 EAD card ordered, (didnt get email or text checked it on USCIS website)

9/18/12 EAD card received in the mail

9/18/12 Interview done, approved on the spot!

9/19/12 Got email that approval notice was mailed out on 9/18/12

9/22/12 Received Approval notice in the mail

9/24/12 Got email that greencard was sent in the mail

9/26/12 Received greencard in the mail, thank you lord!

They want the name you are going to be using as your name now. ( it will be on the green card and all your ID etc )

If you are taking his last name as married name then put that. Or whatever your choice was etc.

In my experience, you should not use the married name until you have actually changed it with social security and all the necessary places. I changed my name half way through the CR1 visa process. NVC had no problem updating the name change for me. good.gif

Completely different process for AOS than CR-1. No reason at all to have to wait until a name is changed with social security or anything else. You start a new petition with new forms in the name you will be using.

thanks guys, ricardo u just cant leave me alone, lol, am sorry about the other day

how do u know if the name was changed on the marriage liscense, i didnt remember anywhere on the marriage liscense asking me for a name change

It doesn't have to be on the certificate for some places. Our state does not show that and I just use the marriage certificate and they change my name on everything to married name.
