we are family with 2 kids and we give glory to GOd that our dv lottery immigrant visa was finally issued and picked on Dec 6th 2011... Due to circumstances beyond our control at the moment i and my wife has just decided that i should go first to the US and get settled down ahead and possibly after a month or two she and the kids can then join me up over there.... but we are not really sure if this is acceptable...i.e our agitation presently is that since we are given the visa togther and in my application form DS-230, question 31a i did fill in there that they will all be accompaning me to the US now and not at a later date...So we are therefore worried at the moment if it will be possible for us to arrive to the US at a different dates i.e. I going first and my wife and the kids joining me later.

Please could someone tell me if this is possible/acceptable?

my second question is on how i can change the address of where my permanent resident card should be mailed to in the US. I actually plan to stay in Atlanta at arrival but i'm currently having a change of mind to move to Chicago and not go to Atlanta anymore. So could someone advise me on how i can effect the change of address immediately i arrive in the US or before arrival so that my permanent resident card could be mailed to my new address in Chicago and not Atlanta.....

If you are the winner, you can go ahead of the rest of the family members. If it's your wife, she needs to be with you when you enter.

To change address, you will give address before you board your flight to the US and then at POE when they process you in the secondary processing you need to tell them you're changing delivery address for GC. Make sure to confirm they entered the right address.

Good luck

I so much appreciate your reply and If i may understood your explanation very well, did you mean that i will be asked to fill a form by the airline officials before boarding the flight to the US from my country to enable me effect the change of address or how do i give address before boarding to the US?

As long as you all get into the U.S within six months of visa issuance you are fine it does NOT matter if you go alone or together but anyone not able to travel by the last day of the 6th month loses the visa ( regardless of the reason).

you could also email the lagosIV section about changing the green card mailing address and see what they advice.

The actual DV winner must come to the US first ( or together with) the rest of the family. You report any time your address changes to USCIS.gov. Just look for the change of address information on that site.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.
