Hello Everyone,

Hey, I have lost my birth certificate, and live in a different state than my birth. I read on the 129F document that all pages copied of my passport will work as a replacement. It says that the passport has to have been issued with a validity period of 5 years. Does this "validity period" mean 5 years from the date issued, or expiration 5 years from the date we petition? I got my passport in 2005 and it expires in 2015. Guess I'm asking if I need a new passport, and if so, I'll make a trip to my birth state to get a new birth certificate.

Thanks so much for your help!!!

It means 5 years PERIOD. Thats it. Your passport is fine. There is no hidden meaning or extra meaning. If you were issued a passport that was or is valid for 5 years or more then you can use it.

Your I-129f was approved in 5 days from your NOA1 date.

Your interview took 67 days from your I-129F NOA1 date.

AOS was approved in 2 months and 8 days without interview.

ROC was approved in 3 months and 2 days without interview.

You ought to be able to obtain a certified copy of your birth certificate by phone and/or mail. No need to travel there if it not convenient.

You can get a copy of your birth certificate by sending an application to your state. All that is required of you is to fill out the application and get it notarized. It's about $20. Though your passport is fine, I personally would go with the birth certificate. It takes about 2-3 weeks for them to get it to you. Use google to find out how to do it for the state in which you live.
