I signed up for this website a while ago, but now we finally decided to TIE THE KNOT. We met in May of 2010 and last time I saw him was December 2010. I hope to finish my BA in a year, then we want to travel the world together! Our only problem now is deciding what do in the mean time...so many visas, so much time :(

What is your BA in?

It will be very difficult for him to travel because he cannot get visas easy like americans. So, your best bet is to get him to usa for 3 years then have him apply for citizenship and then travel the world.

So, finish your degree.

Get married in Turkey. and if they have DCF (direct consular filing) then stay with him in Turkey for 6 months and then file and that is quickest way to get I-130 approved usually.

If they do not have DCF then marry and come back to usa and work and file for him and wait for 10-12 months and he will be able to come here.

You have to meet the income requirements to sponser him which is about 18,400 dollars a year for 2 people or your assets (3 times 18,400). Or you will need a sponsor with american income or assets (5 times 18,400. Or his assets (5 times 18,400)

Good Luck

Look at this link and look to the right for the total days it took from sending 130 till interview. then look and see if they were in AP( Additional or administrative processing) which can take another 1-6 months for middle east men.

Thank you for your advice, you answered all the questions I had in the back of mind. I'm majoring in Applied Linguistics. Thank you for that link too, good quantitative info.!

I think what you suggested is more feasible than what we had in mind. I tried to explain to him how difficult it is, but I want him to speak with someone qualified and physically in Turkey. I wanted to teach English abroad for a few years and have him as my spouse. I wanted to do South Korea since they pay very well and I've been there before, but his visa, even with a spousal visa, might prove challenging. There are countries like Thailand where he doesn't need one and I could teach, but the pay might not be fantastic (I've got some school loans to work off). I'm trying to turn him onto the idea of Istanbul, but he doesn't want to live in Turkey right away. I know, we both wanna get married but not live in our home nations...quite the pair...
