Just an update on my case: after it was transferred to my local office on 4/27 they sent me an RFE on 5/14 for our daughter's birth cert. I promptly sent that in and it was marked by USPS as received on 5/17. However, as of 5/31 my evidence still has not been added to my file (found this out during my 5/31 infopass). The clerk told me they have until 8/9/2012 to respond to my evidence and only AFTER that will I receive a standard interview as they, I guess, think my marriage is fake because my husband and I married while he was in immigration jail.

Today has been 6 months exactly and we still face NVC and the i-601 waiver. But, it's good to know that 601 processing times will be 3 months instead of 10-18 months that they were at the consulate in El Salvador.

Hope everyone else is doing okay.

OK a little alarmed , did a service request because it has been over 5 months since we filed our I-130 and it came back today and said this:

"A check of USCIS records indicates that this case is currently under extensive background check. You should receive a notice of action* within six months"

Does that mean 6 months from today ? That would mean 11 months to process a I-130? Is that possible?

That stinks! Is it still at one of the big processing centers? Always take their timelines with a grain of salt though -- one guy said it could take 120 days to for my file to go from CSC to my local office... it took 2. But yes, some i-130s take around a year to process, especially when they want to interview the petitioner.

Good luck and hang in there!!!!

Yeah - I'm really feeling sick about all this now. Six months. I have a baby coming in July, I need to be in the US with my child and my wife. We have waited almost 6 months to be told nothing except that we can't ask for any more information for another 6 months? I seriously can't afford to live in the UK and raise a family in the US, it is awful situation to be in.

My wife sent the service request on 25 May 2012.

Have contacted the local congressman to explain the hardship that we face if I don't have a visa soon.

I have no idea why they are questioning this at all. I am a UK qualified lawyer with a first rate education and no criminal record. I would at least like some indication of the problem instead of just having them say "don't bother us for 6 months" with no reasoning except "extensive background check"... why are they checking further is the real response we need.

the waiting is really depressing and the way uscis work is frustrating... they let our petitions sit for 5mos and then we have to call their attention for them to start working... they shouldn't ask for another 6mos to do extensive background check since they have 5mos to do it already...isn't initial review status for 5mos given to them for background check and all that stuff???.. it is just irresponsible... if we have deadline and target at work, we work our *ss off and meet everything.. how come they don't do that? .. i'm just really frustrated about this :(
