Hi,

Just wondering how others have found it getting a job in the US. In the UK I had issues with my degree when an employer did a background check on me and I lost out on a job becuase my University did not get back to them with details. It happened becuase my degree was split between 2 Universitys. Worried this could happen again in the US. No other UK employer has ever done these kind of checks, but I get the feeling there a regular thing in the US??

How have others found this. Were US companies reluctant to accept a UK degree, did they background check you? What degree certificates & transcripts did you bring to interviews.

In general how did you find the process of getting a job in the US?

Thanks for any help or advice.

Relax, It should be fine. I manage an employment agency and know what most Human Resources people will do. For most professional positions, your bona fides will have to be researched. One of your Universities will have to tell them you graduated, in a timely manner. Problem is that you are not going to be able to push the process along because the information must come from them. Don't explain your bona fide problem in an interview. It will make you look deceptive.

Good news - Most empoyers do not care where you graduated. As long as you graduated. Not so long ago, most employers would not take a dgree from a non-American (nonmatriculated) school. Now, most will take anything, even on-line degrees.

The answer to your problem - call the Universities, both should have career counselors that can help you with timeliness.

Good Luck!
