Good shooting! Killed him dead on the spot. No charges pending. Police say it is "classic self defense"

Yes, handguns ARE for killing people! Another deserving piece of trash is efficiently removed from society.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Californians must hate this story. A potential victim shoots her criminal attacker in order to protect her life.

Gary, did you happen to hear in the call, where the 911 Operator told the woman not to shot that POS?

Like she was just going to wait there to become the victim. Amazing how in CA., a self defense shooting in your own home needs to be cleared by the DA before one is free from prosecution.

I believe in a persons absolute right to protect themselves. What I don't understand is this bloodlust that you people seem to have in situations like this. The way you speak of it, it almost seems like you fantasize about situations like this, the opportunity to legally kill someone.

The goal of law enforcement is to preserve lives, not advocate killing (don't mistake that for suggesting murder). I have not heard the tape, nor have I read the story (thanks Gary for mentioning an news story, but not providing at least a link), but unless the person was in imminent danger, that would seem like the correct course of action. Furthermore, you will generally won't hear law enforcement, on any level advocate that you kill someone, unless your life is in immediate danger. If you want to live in a society that allows you to carry any firearm, and regular wild west shootouts, I suggest you move to Somalia.

I can't speak for everyone but I generally hope I never have to kill anyone. What I lust for is a society that accepts normal people killing bad people when they do bad things. If we had that very simple principle ingrained in us from birth there'd be less crime and violence.

You can't even get into a fist-fight anymore at a bar. What kind of society is that?

The goal of law enforcement is to preserve lives,

BS. The goal of law enforcement is to make people feel safe.

One of the biggest misconceptions about the wild west was the number of shootouts. There were far fewer than we have today.

Part of that reason is, as law enforcement suggests, you don't kill someone unless they threaten you. When everyone has a gun, hardly anyone is threatened because a threat carries serious weight - and serious repurcussions. In todays society, you can threaten someone all day long and typically don't even get called on it until someone with a gun shows up to do so.

Yes, handguns ARE for killing people!

Or as the quote goes, "A handgun is for fighting your way to your rifle which you shouldn't have put down in the first place"

I think the later part of that quote is reserved for those in a war.

No that's just your twisted spin on my comment. Taking the life of another is no easy thing to do, especially if you have never had to do it, fortunately for me, I'm well beyond that point. I do not fanasize about killing of any kind, however, I am more than elated when a POS is removed from the gene pool that will no longer prey upon an innocent 66 year old woman, or anyone else.

I agree with Slims comment (s). If it was a more accepted thought that it is normal for good people to kill those that prey upon the elderly and children, (and everyone in between) we'd have less senseless violent crime.

I think this is a fundamental divergence Slim. For a lot of liberals, that statement comes off as flippant, and callous. I can see your point, I just don't agree. I don't think that killing other people should be acceptable. Even when someone like Richard Ramirez or John Wayne Gacy is put to death, it's not something that should be celebrated.

I also think you are wrong about law enforcement. Their goal is to protect and serve. I suppose that is up to individual interpretation, but when it comes down to it, they try and protect the lives (and property) of the people under their charge.

Sorry, you're so wrong...the Supreme court has ruled on this. The goal of law enforcement is to enforce the mind-boggling numbers of laws cranked out each year by the mindless politicians in various state houses and city/county governments.

There is a reason they went from being 'peace keepers' to "law enforcement."

Maybe Somalia is better suited for you, I happen to like law and order, and the natural right to self defense.
