If shepard's pie is an American custom then I want to move to the part of America where you live! The only places you can get shepard's pie around here are a few widely scattered English pubs, or wait for the annual Renaissance Faire.

Well, there is one pub in Berkeley that makes shepard's pie, but they only serve it on Sundays, and only vegetarian style. Who the hell ever heard of vegetarian shepard's pie?

You meant she is a VC? (Viet Cong) What you gonna do if she indeed is a spy? Call the FBI? call the NSA? Call Nguyen Tan Dung? (current VN president)

If she knows too much about American Customs, she is suspect to be Vnese spy.

If she doesn't know any culture about US, she doesn't love or care for you enough?

I love Berkeley and as a vegetarian with a vegetarian wife and a vegan daughter all I need for my next visit up north is the name and address of that pub!

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

Hmmm, if the current government considers Vietkieu as troublemakers, why are they afforded special 5-year visa programs to encourage thier travel to Viet Nam?

I went to find their website for you. Unfortunately, it appears they are no longer in business. It's been a couple of years since I'd been there.

http://beckettsirishpub.com/

They recommend John Foley's in San Francisco:

http://www.johnnyfoleys.com/index.php

John Foley's has a "cottage pie" on the menu, but it's a traditional shepherd's pie with beef, gravy, vegetables, and a mashed potato crust. They do have a vegetarian Irish stew you might be interested in, though.

My step-daughter is also a vegetarian, and my wife eats vegetarian 10 days each lunar month (it's a Buddhist thing). If you prefer something in the East Bay, and you don't mind going a little further south, my step-daughter really likes Tofu House in Castro Valley. It's a tiny place that serves traditional Korean food, and many of them are vegetarian.

It is true that the VN government watches Viet Kieu in the US. As long as they're not marching in front of the Vietnam consulate carrying the flag of the Republic of Vietnam and doing interviews on SBTN then they should be ok. The ones who make public statements against the government of Vietnam pretty much know that they can never return to Vietnam.
