That's true, the Russians weren't just watching the war. I meant they sat back and watched the Germans, or rather did not interfere with the German military. Since neither side intended to adhere to the non aggression pact in the long run, there will always be some debate as to how different the outcome of the war may have been if the Russians sided with the allies from the beginning.

True.

Also worth mentioning was that Stalin refused to aid in the Pacific. He was perfectly willing to accept aid to fight the Germans...but did not return the favor.

BTW do you know how the Germans got the fuel and materials to build those bombs they were dropping on England during the Blitz? From their #1 ally Joseph Stalin. If the Germans hand't turned against their ally aka USSR, England would have been in for the fight of her life.

In the end the Lend - Lease Act did it's job for us without losing too many casualties in Europe, and two bombs in Japan closed up that side of the job.

The US also began supplying Russia after operation Barbarosa began. I imagine a lot of it went through your neck of the woods, across to Novosibirsk and Vladivostock. If I recall correctly, half of the aid from the Lend - Lease Act was to Russia.

That was the major reason the Japs invaded Alaska, they wanted a base on the Aleutian Islands to go after our shipping in case Russia decided to invade China. Russia eventually did go after the Japs, five days before Japan surrendered and only after we dropped the big ones on Japan. Russia took the Sakhalin Islands from Japan, and Outer Manchuria from China a few days before the war ended. China still wants it's land back from Russia and Japan refuses to give up on those islands. Russia has made bank from the oil it's pumped off that island.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

By the way, relating history as it actually happened is not anti - American

I don't remember any part of the oath of allegiance which says..

" I undertake to twist history to make the US look good and to be quiet about our failures"

If it had, I wouldn't have taken it

As I understand what it is to be an American, it is to be truthful, open and honest.

It's a pity more born Americans can't live up to that

Unless people remember wars like Vietnam and Iraq as abject failures and mistakes, the US will repeat them. Helping to prevent that is being patriotic, and hushing it up or disguising it or presenting it as something else can only make a repetition more likely and is thus anti-patriotic, un-american

People like me who present the stark facts, help to prevent the next 500,000 shattered bodies and people who try to hush people like me and re-write history are responsible for next 500,000

There's theory's on it, but the one I lean with is Stalin was waiting for Hitler to spend himself on the West so he could make his move Westward after everyone else was played out. He even gave Hitler a submarine base in Murmansk so that Hitler could avoid the Allied blockade of Germany. Either way Poland was going to be screwed. If the Poles hadn't been dicks to the Western Ukrainians and Belarusians in Western Belarus, Poland would have had more help at home. They (Poland) could have gave Western Ukraine and Western Belarus along with Vilnius it's freedom but Piduski was a greedy pr*ck.

You know...the Ukrainians initially hailed the Germans as liberators...Stalin had tried to starve them to death not long before...but the Germans treated them with contempt. Had they tried a little hearts and minds...the outcome of the war may have been different.

I love Google. It would take a lot more than this for me to ever stop buying and using google products.

I would expect nothing less from you.

I thank God that I live in a country that protects free speech. Many have died to keep it that way...while others seek to destroy it.

They did the same thing we did. Tried to stay out of it while making the biggest profit possible.

They did a lot more than just that. They invaded Eastern Europe including Poland along with their NAZI allies and then proceeded to butcher Poles, Baltic peoples, Romanians, and Western Ukrainians like there was no tomorrow. They even handed over Polish partisans to the NAZI's right before the NKVD butchered well over 20,000 Poles with a bullet in the back of their head. After that the Russians got busy with marching Eastern Europeans to slave labor camps in Siberia and Russia Far East.

It was the same in Belarus. When the Germans walked into Minsk the people hailed them as liberators from the Russians. Then when the SS came in, like they did in Western Ukraine and started butchering people the locals got the gist of Hitlers aims. Even the German regular army was sickened by what the SS was doing hence the German Army generals trying to assassinate Hitler more than a few times.

You know its really amazing how people have so quickly forgotten what a bloodthirsty and ruthless world it was prior to WW2..and then denigrate US for the ensuing peace.

That is true.

Too bad that is not what you have been doing.

So what did I get wrong ?

What was so wonderful about Vietnam ?

What was so glorious about Grenada or Panama ?

If you are going to say my history is wrong, you should say why or belt up

Day After Pearl Harbor, Google Displays Logo For Communist Diego Rivera

Google-Diego-Rivera-Logo-1323349398.jpg

Today, December 8th, Google has a worldwide logo for Diego Rivera. The logo is beautiful, showing off the spirit and work of the well-known artist, Diego Rivera. He was born 125 years ago on December 8, 1886 in Guanajuato, Guanajuato, Mexico and died on November 24, 1957 in Mexico City at the age of 70.

He is most well known for his murals painted across Mexico City, Chapingo, Cuernavaca, San Francisco, Detroit, and New York City. But he was also known as being an active communist, which is what is upsetting some Americans.

If you look at the Google Doodle forum you will see post after post with complaints that Google didn't have a logo for the anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attacks yesterday and to make matters worse, they had a logo for a communist the day after. They feel it is a slap in American's faces.

One Google user said in a Google Web Search Help post:

While Diego Rivera is a great artist, today is a day supposed to be set aside to remember those that fell that day 70 years ago when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. So today to see you honor Rivera and yet not mention the thousands that fell on this day 70 years ago saddens me. Usually I love your doodles, but, today I just found it sad that the decision you made was to go with an artists birthday and not honor those brave men and women that perished on this day 70 years ago.

To be fair, Google does not post logos for sad events and Pearl Harbor is one of those sad events.

One big difference, of course, is that Stalin had purged 95 percent of his high ranking military officers in the years prior to the war. The red army couldn't have taken on the Germans even if they wanted to.
