I need some help am very concerned and a panicking!!

My wife and i went to AOS interview yesterday. Had a IO who was not friendly we answered our questions but she didn't give feedback that say we did bad so i would assume we answered correctly. After asking questions from the I-485 and how we met, when we got married, if we are working now i was unemployed from June this year till last month and so was my wife. we both got temporary jobs last month etc etc. She did advice us that we were denied nor approved but she gave us a paper for RFE re a letter from my mother to stated that we are living with her and saving up to get our own place.

the evidence we had was our bank accounts from our banks. we have no bills together at this time as my mom is kind enough to let us stay here for free.

has anyone else ever encounter this situation? and will this be a negative to favorable decision? we have until march 2012 to submit the information requested. i asked her if the letter is all i need and she said what ever evidence we can come up with can be included as well.
