Which of These Car Tires Would You Prefer, & Why?

My Z3 roadster had a good spare. Did you look in the trunk under the bottom? You can pull out the cover and it should be under it.blink.gif

I actually have a Z4M. As far as I know, the M roadsters do not come with spares, so that it is lighter for increased performance.

I have been thinking for buying a low-mileage Z3 for a while now, I hear that they drive more like a go-kart compared to a Z4. Is it true?

Never drove a Z4 but the Z3 was very fun to drive. I would say that it was like driving a high dollar go-cart. still have a slight regret selling that car.

yes, about 1500 miles so far. first new set for the wife's vibe (now my daily driver, insert joke about charles driving his wife's vibe here: _________________)

they were the 2nd choice for the car, the top choice was pricier and had a longer tread life, but at 55k or so i figure it will take me about 6-7 years to run them down to where they need replacing - the other tires would have needed replacing due to dry rot.

the altimax also didn't have the complaints of road noise the first choice had. so far, they are doing pretty good, although i detect a slight decrease in gas mileage.

I use tirerack online

They ship them to a tire fitter near you - the fitter contacts you to say they have arrived and they fit them for a few dollars

I priced a set of tires and wheels (Blizzak snow and ice ) at Charles Schwab - they were $1450

I got the tires and steel wheels from tirerack - they were $770 including shipping and balancing and valves

I put them on myself in about 20 minutes. So easy I got another set for her indoor's car

Superb service - 2 days !

A customer in Alaska got them in days too

Its online only for me. I just need some snow now

Many thanks, si man. The reviews that I've seen also mention decreases in mileage. Perhaps higher inflation (of air, not of gas prices) would take care of this?

'Twill be interesting to si how my buddy proceeds.

The buddy has looked into this, too. I scoped the site briefly and wasn't overly impressed. no man.

At long last, a report: My buddy has purchased the General AltiMax tyres (British spelling, si man).

Sears Auto was closing these out at $80 per tyre. They printed him an estimate that he said had an artificially low final total (they charged only $14.99 total for balancing, rather than $14.99 per tyre). He took that estimate to Discount Tire, which promises not to be undersold. The assistant manager there apparently focused on the absolute total, not realizing that the estimate was faulty. He cut their own price of the General tyres from $95 to $75, reduced the other fees (disposal, lifetime balancing) to nearly nothing, & undercut the Sears price enough for my buddy to agree to the sale.

He got these just on Dec. 31, so it's too soon for a performance report (including any loss of gas mileage due to "rolling resistance"). He did say that they seem to be pretty quiet.

Meanwhile, I purchased a set of Sears Guardsman tyres (Sears' lowest-end tyre, but they're made by Cooper) for the Mrs.-T-B.-mobile, si man. They seem great -- her car now handles with a touch of the steering wheel, rather than with the harder motion that the previous no-name tyres required. There's some road noise, but that has never bothered me, no man. If Sears had them in a size for my car, I'd go for another set.

Appreciative thanks to all who have provided their input on this matter, si man.
