silly question...married name or maiden name?

You know I keep posting silly questions, and I'm sorry! lol, just want to make sure I have this form right. I havent gotten my name switched over yet, so Im just wondering when filling out the I-130 form, do you still use your married name or your maiden name? Im gettin it switched here very soon, so no worries bout that. Thanks guys once again! :)

I used maiden. At the time, all my supporting identification was in the maiden name. I called on Monday asking if I needed to switch it and was told I could write a letter to CSC and provide documentation of new name. I've decided to wait for the NOA2 and send everything then.

The i-130 asks for "Family Name", I am sure that means what your current last name is, so if you change your name before you mail it out then you would put the new last name. When it asks about your mothers info, it specifically asks for her maiden name. Good luck.

Ok so then once i actually get it changed, i can copy my old Social Sec. card (now), and then copy my new one to show that i changed it etc? and my ID... and i can send that with the DS230 (is that the NOA2?) when time comes?

good.gif correct. if you have not changed the name.. then you cannot use it.

ok so what if i get it switched AFTER i send in the I-130 then what? because i plan on doing it very soon. I just dont know i can use my long cert. copy that the minister gave me after our wedding (is is to my Jamaican wives sorry i guess everybodys is different). because if i can use that then i will go tomorrow and file with the social security office etc.

This was such a tricky question that i had as well, but i used my maiden name on everything, because i dont have any legal docs in the USA with my married name.... i hope that was the way to go... good luck :)

I used my married name and then I changed my name on my SS card. They know that once you get married you have change your name so they are expecting that some documents will have your maiden name and some will have your married name.

As long as you provide your MC which is the proof that you are married then what name you use doesn't really matter. Like the person above me said, they know all the documents might not be changed to your new last name right away, this takes time to change everything. Don't lose sleep over this!

Personally I have chosen to wait till this entire process is over to change my last name, so I have used my maiden name on everything and will continue to do so until my husband does POE and this is all over. Just makes things less complicated, I think, but you are welcome to do as you please.

You are welcome to change your last name after you send the I-130, it's okay.

thanks guys! yeh i was just a lil bit confused as always lol. i use my married name at for work etc. becuz i know that it soon get changed. but i guess it really doesnt matter? ill just put my maiden name so i wont confuse myself anymore! lol
