Got a K-1 filer friend in CA who was told to leave playing a slot machine because "Minor isn't allowed". She was asked to show an ID but she didn't bring any at that moment.

I am typical short, lean and baby faced looking Asian. In the Philippines, I am thought to be 20 (I'm actually 28) but not as a minor.

Do you have to always bring ID with you? What kind of ID's they accept when you're just new in the area?

I'm 35 and still get carded for buying alcohol ... sometimes

Except in a driving situation, I know of no law which requires anybody in California

(where I'm from at least) to carry identification, or to produce it upon demand.

If a police officer has a basis to arrest you, a failure to produce identification

may result in your being taken into custody, rather than being cited to appear, but

I know of no offence committed by somebody who does not produce identification upon demand.

Everyone at the children's elementary school initially thought Rin was their older sister from high school when she went to pick them up.

When she first arrived in Memphis we went to Beale Street. On the weekend it's barricaded from traffic with police at all entrances. They asked for Rin's ID. The only one we had was her Thai ID, which I handed to the officer. He looked at it for several seconds, then let us in. I really doubt he could read Thai and the only four digit number was 2521 (birth year in the Thai calendar).

I will be married in March -and lets just say it's a good day if I'm not carded TWICE at any restaurant/bar/club. Just yesterday, I was at a nce restaurant with my co-workers.... the waiter was describing the drink menu, then looked straight at me and said that "All of the drinks are also available with no alcohol." My co-workes started laughing, because they know my situation and the waiter was just so blatant, lol.

I always carry my id. I am CONSTANTLY asked for it. I am 30 and I often get people thinking I am a teenager (though I really don't see it, I think I look my age)

all your funny stories reminded me of a time i was shopping. When I was finished getting everything I wanted, I put it all on the check out conveyer... I didnt have a lot.. a few groceries, couple shirts, and a movie. After the gal rang me up, she told me she needed to see my ID, I looked at her strangely as I didn't have alcohol or wasnt purchasing cigarettes and asked her why and she said that the movie I was buying is rated R and i had to be 17yrs old to buy it, I was 28 at the time. I had to laugh a little at that one and the few ladies behind me that heard her ask.

Well, this is a reality thread :) I have 3 kids, one already finished college, but when we go out, people who doesn't really know about me thought that my kids are just my younger siblings. There are many times people thought that I am still single and no kids at all. I look like 10-15 years younger my age. LoL :) maybe because I love to smile and laugh! :) though I can be serious at times. Not really a worrying person as I trust God all times and of course try doing my best in all things and leave the rest to God. I think this is the key to live life happily -- age gracefully ! :)

Yeah, regardless of whether you're immigrant or native-born, if you want to enjoy something that is age-restricted - smokes, alcohol, gambling, and apparently R-rated movies ;) - you should be ready to show ID. I've seen people get carded at the store who are clearly grandparents already. :)

As a child/teenager I most often got mistaken for older than I was. Nowadays I haven't noticed much of anyone getting my age very wrong in either direction. However, one time my sister-in-law (who is a year or two older than me) and I were riding in the truck with my husband when a police officer pulled us over. He thought the two of us were the children of my husband

(Not sure that tells you anything other than that the police officer was a little, err, crazy or something. Us girls were early 20s and husband was late 20s. )

I always have Id with me, u never know when u will need it.

I'm often told I look younger as well. I'm 26 and 5'2. One day I was at an elementary school where they have restrooms for the kids and one separate for adults so obviously I was heading to the adult bathroom and one Guy from the school personnel told me that this bathroom was for 'adults only', and I'm like 'dude, I'm an adult! He was so embarrassed.... anyway, I do love looking younger than I am and I'm sure I will love it even more in like 10 years lol.

Do they ask an ID if you're buying any birth control stuff?

No id is required to buy condoms, for example, but many contraceptives require a prescrption which will require health insurance. It's as simple as telling your doctor what form of birth control you want. If you do not have health insurance then you can contact Planned Parenthood or Family Tree or a similar organization and they can usually assist you in getting a prescription without insurance.

Legally you're supposed to carry your passport until you have your GC. This is to prove your legal status in the US. Personally though I carry my drivers licence and will carry (when I get it) a color photocopy of my GC.

When I was a teenager people always thought I must be in my 20s because I was tall, fat and matronly in a young kind of way... and until very recently they STILL thought I'm in my 20s because I really did look the same. I've got a photo of me at 15 and it doesn't look much different to my wedding photos. It's only in the last few months that I think I'm starting to look my age (40). We'll see what happens in the future.

I got carded at the liquor store before Christmas, buying a miniature bottle of brandy for my Christmas hardsauce. I was like 'guy, how old do you think I AM - I left 18 behind more than 20 years ago.' Ridiculous. My husband has been mistaken for my father more than once because he was well on his way to grey before we got married, even though he's only 7 years older than me.
