Most people might, but a lot of people see a naked person outside and the first thing that comes to mind is that they are in big time trouble and running from someone. It's a reaction.

It does apply to you, but now that you know I'm too scared to open the door, feel free to ignore it. If you're planning to stay for the winter I'd recommend you grab some lumber from the shed and build a little shelter. It gets kind of cold at night.

You can use our mailbox if you want cause I won't be coming outside until you're gone. Don't bother knocking though, I'll have the door barricaded as soon as I see you walking up the driveway. The mailman's name is Ernie btw. Just tell him you live there now.

Not walking into it would have prevented it as well. Calling the cops and waiting in the car at a safe distance. And everyone would have lived and probably remained unharmed.

Just because an opportunity presents itself (castle doctrine + homeowner with gun) to legally kill someone doesn't mean we should toss the idea around freely.

How would you feel if the police were pulling you over saying "hmm maybe I'll give him a .45 to the head if he becomes combative?" You would feel terrible. And you would never expect this from a cop because they cannot just go around toasting people. They have to look for the best way out of a situation.

There is one reason to kill someone in this world, and that is because if you don't they will kill (or significantly) you or another innocent person. Anything else is barbarianism. The cops are not everyplace at once, I get that. We need to take responsibility for personal protection, I get that. Pulling into my driveway and knowingly walking into what sounds like the opening scene of Terminator I ("give me your clothes.") on my porch, hand on my .45 ready, that's just dumb. Even the 'ol Terminator's logic map would have suggested calling the cops.

This is coming from a person who carries regularly, has 7.62 military rifle, etc. I don't walk around thinking I'm going to shoot people in the head. When I was a kid I had a 4" knife on me and was mugged by two adults. I could have slashed them but instead I let them take the $100 necklace I had, and then I went about my business. And I am alive and they are probably dead or in rehab. If they were going to the next level you can bet I would have used the knife.

If we keep talking tough like John Wayne we will scare the majority public into thinking a minority of the population who owns or carries firearms are a problem and then they will use legislation to strip away our rights, privileges, whatever you want to call them depending on which side of the aisle you stand. We argue its a guaranteed right and not something that can be taken away. To that I say go talk to the slave owners of the 1800's, they had their "rights" and backing of presidents and congress, then people decided that slavery was a bad idea (which it is).

Sorry Misha & Ira I am not trying to pick a fight or even make an example but I think it has to be said as it is (in my view) a theme with some of us gun owners.

But, what I'm hearing from some people on here and what I'd do too, is I'd ask a naked guy on my porch if he needed help. Of course it'd raise some red flags that there's a big naked guy on my porch but I wouldn't immediately relocate and let someone else handle it.

Lets say that naked person was a kid. Would you back off and call the cops? Why not?

I hear you on situation and context. It's a case by case call but I tend to play it conservatively. If I HAD to get in the house, i.e. wife inside needs to be rushed to hospital, AND Suge Knight is nude passed out on my porch, then I am calling the police, pulling the car around back as to avoid confrontation, but with whatever weapon is handy ready to deploy just in case. Then I get my wife and promptly get the hell out of the house and drive away. They call that an extraction I think. If it's a 150lb college kid passed out in his own pee on my porch and I live in a college neighborhood I might handle it differently. That said I try to avoid situations that resemble a scene from delta force and I'd call the cops either way. These days the drunk naked guy would piss himself and then sue you because your porch was too cold and his PP got frostbite.

My experience on what I have seen steroids do to people:

I once called the police on my own house due to roid rage.

Four 16 year old kids drinking in a living room, me, my best friend, and 2 kids from the projects who are lifelong acquaintances, both on deka.

Somehow the ####### talking turns sour, and the smaller of the roid guys stands up and cracks my best friend in the face.

The big roid guy stands up and restrains the other guy back in a sort of nelson hold.

My best friend takes a swing at smaller guy who moves his head, and ends up cracking the big guy, he's over 200 lbs and can probably bench 350 and deadlift 500.

His facial expressions were like some ####### out of WWF, shuddering and snorting like a bull. Then he charges my buddy and the two of them proceed to pummel my friend into a pulp.

I did not jump in because I would have gotten creamed. I never felt so helpless in my life. They didn't attack me, just him.

Without thinking twice, I called the police, and when the cops were coming down the street I said hey guys you gotta run, cops are coming, then they ran away.

I had to clean my friends blood off the walls and ceiling. He told the cops he fell down a flight of stairs.

The beating was no more than 90 seconds.

5 minutes prior all parties were drinking and laughing.

The next time I saw the smaller steroid guy was 5 years later. Some car cuts in front of me at a stop sign and I gave a salute. This guy gets out of the car, I say hey look it's Ricky its all good, I'm rolling down the window to say hey man long time no see.

Ricky walks up to my car with a face impossibly blank yet angry at the same time. I roll up the window and lock the door, and put the car in first gear. In that time he had proceeded to punch the mirror off my car, and was ripping at the door handle and punching the window. I was so lucky, that old Camaro had a motor would cough and sputter when cold. If it stalled I would have been destroyed.

I am not sure if he knew who I was or not at first but he did when we started attacking the car.

All these guys need was the smallest provocation and then they were like rabid dogs. It was bizarre.

If I had to suggest what to give people if you wanted them to fight to the death, I would say a heavy cycle of winstrol, cocaine and pint of vodka.

I guess becuase I'm a pretty big dude it doesn't really bother me to investigate the status of folks like Suge. I'm pretty fast too so that may have something to do with it.

To me it's not so much the danger or threat, it's doing the right thing. There's not supposed to be a naked dude on my porch. I'll ask if he needs assistance. If he tries something and I'm packing, I should have the upper hand. If I'm not packing (and maybe even if I am) I can probably outrun him or at least put up a decent enough fight that I wouldn't be beaten too severely.

But moreover, we should never be in danger on our own property. If we are, we should have the right to defend ourselves by any means necessary.

Agreed. I've seen it quite a few times and there really is no rational way for them to deal with the situation. Either you leave or you convince them to leave.

The flight response takes longer for them to generate, but all that energy has to go somewhere.
