COLTON, Calif. (AP) — Police say a naked, 300-pound bodybuilder savagely beat a Southern California couple at their home, leaving them in critical condition.

The Sun of San Bernardino (http://bit.ly/uen2Vt ) says 22-year-old Ruben Arzu apparently was under the influence of steroids and other drugs, and it took four police officers, two stun gun blasts and four sets of handcuffs to restrain him.

Police say the couple came home late Saturday to find Arzu naked on the front porch of their home in Colton.

When Arzu was confronted by the 35-year-old husband, police say the bodybuilder attacked the man, causing major head trauma.

The man's wife called 911. Police say Arzu then picked her up and threw her around, causing facial injuries and multiple cuts to her head.

Arzu was booked on suspicion of attempted homicide.

Agreed. I mean you see some 300lb naked dude that you don't know sitting on your front porch and you confront this guy? Although the husband might have just asked the guy if he needed help or if he was in trouble and the guy could have just went off. Hard to say what happened without more details.

why a gun would have only escalated the situation, better this couple suffer their wounds and then try to get on with life than risk a fatal injury to the naked crazy guy.

If the state denies you the use of firearms for self defense, then you have no choice but to call someone else with a gun. Eventually though the problem gets solved by someone with a gun. Pay me now, pay me later. The difference is that we never hear of 300 pound naked drunk dudes on porches in Vermont...at all. Because there is a good chance the people coming home WOULD have a gun so the 300 pound naked drunk dudes move to California.

I would suggest the couple move to Vermont, get guns and enjoy life in a crime free place.

It's not illegal to have a gun in California. Well, certain guns. Which actually, is a quite long list. And a required permit to transport the gun.

...there's just a ton of hoops to jump through.

My dad had two registered handguns in our house. *shrugs*

...it's just annoying as hell to try and get one, to make sure you aren't breaking any laws. But that couple could have one legally, IF they wanted one.

You pull up in your driveway and notice a naked guy sitting on your front porch. First thing that comes to mind is this guy is in some serious trouble and needs help. You walk over to "your front porch" and ask the guy if he needs help. The guy comes unglued and attacks the man putting him in critical condition and then attacks the wife and puts her in the hospital also.

Same scenario but with a gun. The home owner confronts the man asking him if he's in need of assistance the man jump up to attack the man and the man puts one through the attackers noggin if the wife doesn't beat him to it.

Guns do help to protect lives and you never know when it will save your life or not. Better to be packing than not.
