Good morning. I'm a new member. My fiance has an interview coming up soon in Nigeria. I was working part-time last year and my income from last year was very low. I started a full-time job in May and with the salary I am earning at my current job I can sponsor him. I got a letter from my current employer stating how much I make, my job title, and that it is a full-time position. I was going to get a Co-sponsor but the Co-sponsor's 2010 tax transcript states that she's receiving unemployment compensation. Can my fiance go to the interview with the letter from my cuurent employer or do I still need a Co-Sponsor since I don't have Income tax returns for the 3 years?

you have to be able to show (compute) that you meet the above-poverty (125%) guideline for your application. so show everything you need. if your current employment shows that, plus the required tax return/s. if not, then you will really need a co-sponsor fill out the same form you did. also if you read the form it says there assets (even those of your beneficiary) can be used so consider that too.

With all respect: I question this Reply.

The Petitioner has 9 months solid on a job. With a Employment Letter and pay stubs exceeding the guildlines.

I agree, not looking good to not have 2010 taxes (W2's) but a letter of explaination could be admmisable.

And never heard of a Beneficiaries Assets being countable to a Petition.

So, If I'm wrong I'm wrong. But the OP reads this and the assumption that we are right is not always true.

I have 2010 Tax transcript but my income for last year is not enough to sponsor my fiance. But I started a new job in May and I got a letter from my employer stating my annual salary and date of employment.

If you don't have a Co-Sponsor you have to go with what you have.

It would be nice if you posted a Timeline.

I am not sure how strict they are in Nigeria about the previous tax transcripts. You would need to ask others that went through Nigeria to know. You should be able to sponsor him if your salary is above the 125% level just by showing the employer letter and a few months of recent pay stubs, especially if in the 7 months you have worked there you already made enough to reach the 125% mark for the year. I am not sure if Nigeria requires the last 3 years of tax transcripts or just the most recent year. Again, ask in the country specific forum to find out what they want at the consulate there.

I did file for 2010 but the income is not up to the 125% poverty guideline. Thanks everyone for your support.

The Interview is mid January.

Usually they consider your current job situation and once you have paystubs and letter of employment stating your financial status( which is above 125% poverty line right ?) then you shd be fine since its just a househokd of two. Its a plsu that you have 2010 tx transcripts even if it NOT enough butit shows you were responsible and working and now you have made financial progress.

It would not hurt to hang unto to the co-sponsor though.they usually scrutnize them when the petitioner does not earn enough....so in this case the scrutiny shld be mild.
