So, your OPINION Is: That every Pinay with an American did it for THE INCOME RATIO. Well, you tell Mav that and all the other Pinays. You insulted alot of people by that statement, but its a grain of Salt to me.

Did we ride the Short Bus together in School.

Nothing new. Steven is just miffed that he didn't realize until too late that it is okay to "trade up" to a sportier model.

It's a very real dynamic in these Fil/Am relationships and in my opinion, not something to necessarily feel ashamed of. Fifty years ago, women here in the states were more likely to factor in financial security when marrying than they do today. As income levels as well as career opportunities started to even out more for both men and women, then it became less a factor. You can't deny the very real fact that the one thing most American men have going for them in finding a young women from a poor country is his comparable abundance of income or financial security. Because, with all things being relatively equal, statistically, women will tend to marry men closer in age to them.

Ashamed of : Well thats what a relationship needs.

50 years ago :

And stop using the Word Poor: We are Owned by China

You say I can't deny trying to find a young woman. I was never looking.

I can handle anything, a cheating wife, divorce, death. The Big Blow to me is when I lost one of my boys. That I still deal with. So shove your Opinion up last years Turkey. SO MAV MAKES ME HAPPY! I don't care what you think.

In my adult life I've only ever dated one woman who was my age or greater (she was 2 years older than I am). My relationships have had age differences ranging from 2 to 18 years. In fact my last girlfriend before Anna was actually younger than she is.

I'd dated a few Asian women before Anna and will admit that I find the totality of their physical features to be most pleasant but I've walked away from relationships for reasons that have nothing to do with physical appearance and never ended a relationship because of something so superficial as outward physical appearance.

When I planned my trip to the Philippines finding a wife was the last thing on my mind. I just happened to bump into Anna while I was researching Diving in the Philippines and looking for locals who dive. My initial messages to Anna were not even really expecting a conversation to happen let alone evolve into what it has become.

I'm with her because she is who she is not because of her age, ethnicity or anything petty like that.

I'm not sure why you're getting so defensive. You started this thread and brought up the issue of money, so I contributed by pointing out how money or economics plays a part in these Fil/Am relationships. That doesn't make them any less valid. People choose their partners for a myriad of reasons and it's obvious to most everyone that these young Filipinas aren't settling for men much older than they are because they enjoy the feeling of wrinkled, sagging skin. The U.S. has traditionally been looked at as the land of opportunity even if that opportunity is less so now than before. Go to the Philippines and ask some young, single girls right up front if any of them would be interested in marrying an older, American and moving to the U.S. and you'd see droves of them lining up. That's just the way it is. Yes, it's a generalization and not every Filipina who marries an American is that eager to move to the U.S., but for many of them who lack any real economic opportunities, a middle-aged Kano with a modest income is their best hope for getting out of poverty.

Steve, could you be a bigger jerk? Be happy that other people are happy, and don't project your failures on other people. VJ! Sheesh.

Oh, and that plus on your post? My bad. Where is the unlike button?

Talking about money being a factor in these relationships is what this thread is about. Perhaps you'd like to start your own rainbows and unicorns thread?

How about letting the OP define his own thread, rather than making this thread another vehicle to try and impress your bovine friends.

So many trolls.

Anyways, not saying that I completely agree with everything that Steve said is true. But he brings up some good observations. As a 2nd generation Filipina-American, he's not far off. Specifically, the difference between what a PI born versus an American born pinay in relationships with older men. I couldn't tell you a single american born pinay of the people I know who have married a man of that many years older. And I know hundreds.

However, just because there may be a grain of truth in the observation, does not mean that the love is not true. I think it just means that Pinays born in the PI are more open and willing to let these love relationships build.

I personally don't mind this "fact." My fiance is from a country where "find a nice American to marry and get the hell out of here," is a common point of view. We happened upon each other and grew to love each other. I know where his heart is. That's what matters. I simply laugh at the fact that his family and friends say things like "whoo hoo you found a rich American girl." ... I laugh mostly because I'm still paying off 20K in student loans and live in a small one bedroom apartment. If they onllllly knew.
