CR1 success rates at GUZ if US citizen can't make the interview

I know how it is always best and never hurts to be present outside the interview. But I was just wondering about any of you whom could not make it to the interview due to not being able to take time off from work etc, still had Guangzhou approve the visa?

Wonder what was said when they may have asked "where is your spouse?" and maybe asked "why is your spouse not with you outside?"

I last saw my wife last month, I have visited her already 4 times this year and all those travel records were already front loaded and reloaded and also will add more to her case file divider briefcase that she will bring to the window.

I heard that some consulates (Ecuador?) give out automatic denials for visas if the US citizen could not make it to accompany the spouse at the time of interview.

Even if I cannot make it, I still will send her temporarily my Passport via EMS with a local california notarized 3rd revised/updated EOR letter.

My case is a CR1.

It is not required for USC to accompany the spouse at the time of interview. But the fact is that, alot of embassy wont let USC to accompany the spouse in the interview room.

See, as you have already visited 4times a year so it won't hurt if you are not able to make it at the time of interview. 4 visit in a year is more than enough. In fact at most of the embassy husband is not allowed to enter the consulate.

our case was a CR1.

Due to my job and trying to travel again with our young daughter I was not able to make my husband's interview I had visited up to 3 times ....we were recently approved and I wouldn't have been allowed in the interview .... Good luck  seems as though you have overwhelming evidence

I know that not being allowed in interview, but the part where "flashing US passport/EOR" and the "where is husband? / He is outside" seems to be common winner with the questions the Visa officers in Guangzhou?

If the interviewing officer does look at your visa and notices the exit stamp, might decide to ramp the interview questions up. If you will be there in person I would send the passport in, but if not there I would not. Good Luck at the interview!

If you can't make it, don't bother sending your passport, it will not fool a CO. Your wife would have to truthfully answer the question if you were there or not. Additionally, the CO could choose to take the passport and look for the entry stamps.

It is dangerous to mail your US passport under any circumstance. I learned some where that it is against the law to put a US passport in the mail, except when you are mailing it to or from the US government for passport related business. If they detect that you are putting the passport in the mail it could be confisticated.

As for whether to visit or not, theoretically it does not matter to the US CON, but in practice it does play some difference. But the main advantage is you will be able to go over with the beneficiary and go over all the application materials with her, and plut you extend some sort of support.

That is important as the Chinese beneficiary, not good at English, may not comprehend stuffs in the application materials, and needs your help to understand them and memorize them.

For one reason or another I could not make it to my wife's interview and I thought I presented so much materials the interview should be trivial. I was wrong and my wife received a white slip of denial. She just wasn't prepared enough.

The lesson is, you can assume all your paper documents have been thrown away never read, and it is up to your Chinese beneficiary herself, and herself standing alone, to present and prove the case, orally, without the help of the papers you prepared for her. If she can not do it, you'd better be with her and help her to the point that she can do it.

My wife speaks good english, worked in the UK for 10 years and went to school. She actually is often smarter than me in many things, so it should be no problem reading the case box and tabs.

About passports, I am sure you are allowed to still send the US passport out to a travel visa center to get certain visas sometimes. I wont send it.

If you can't make it then send her a notarized copy of the bio page of your passport. It wouldn't hurt to get this certified by the nearest Chinese consulate as well.

As for iwaiting's comment. This is Guangzhou and it is a huge plus if the spouse is at the consulate and a huge minus if they aren't. Yes we can't go in to the interview but they can and most often do ask where the spouse is and in Guangzhou it always helps to be able to say they are waiting outside.

I'm curious about you seeing your wife last month. Didn't you know last month you would be interviewing soon?

I just think it is prudent to plan our lives around the visa process, because this is the single most important thing to worry about period. With that said you cannot change the past so brings to the next question, "does it matter if the spouse is present or not"

In my case I know it weighed in very very heavily. I had married on my first visit after knowing wife only 8 months. Did not visit again another 9 months then 3rd visit for interview. That meant that if I was not there for days together with wife going over every conceivable question and scenario, bringing a suitcase full of evidence, I probably would not have succeeded.

To say you cannot " get off work" is too convenient. If you used up all vacation already on visits can't you take even a brief leave, no one said you had to stay in Guangzhou for weeks just go and come right back. My wife had a major operation and I took a few days off work but had a very short visit but still she is my life and that trumps anything else going on.

My personal experience and gut says go be there for her, and stack the deck on the interview give her confidence and show the CO you really mean your love and bona fide relationship. If your supervisor won't allow you to take off, what kind of job do you have? If you were sick do they want you going to work with your appendix hanging out? Cant you work remotely a few days? I had great internet in the apartment we rented in Guangzhou and I was able to do an awful lot of work related stuff and keep in contact.

It is your choice, don't give other people power over you, there is always a way!

My vacation bid was only for that month, I have to bid vacations a year in advance, plus I am in process of a secondary job and I will be on job probation for 6 months.

I am an operations manager and I run a shift, so I cannot network.

Either way I hope I can get a date before my second job training starts, so I can try to take time off.
