2009

Mohammed has become the most popular name for newborn boys in Britain.

It shot up from third the previous year, overtaking Jack, which had topped the list for the past 14 years but was relegated to third spot.

Olivia topped the list for little girls for the second year in a row, behind Ruby and Chloe.

A total of 7,549 newborns were given 12 variations of the Islamic prophet Mohammed’s name last year, such as Muhammad and Mohammad.

The second most popular boy’s name, Oliver, was given to 7,364 babies.

Harry and Alfie came in fourth and fifth place respectively.

The official list, which covers all births in 2009 in England and Wales, has Mohammed at number 16 but this does not include the many different spellings, which are all ranked separately.

When they are added in, Mohammed zooms all the way up to top spot for the first time.

In order of popularity, the variant spellings used during the year were: Muhammad, Mohammad, Muhammed, Mohamed, Mohamad, Muhamed, Mohammod, Mahamed, Muhamad, Mahammed and Mohmmed.

There are still other possible spellings but these were not used for births in England and Wales in 2009. Regionally, the single spelling of Mohammed came top of the list for the West Midlands.

Its amazing that the equal opportunities people say that 0.000000000000003% of the UK population is Muslim, but a Muslim name is the top name for boys - and that was 2009 - imagine 2012

Can we trust the statistics ?

When will Mohammed become the top boys name in the USA ?

Everyone likes Mohammed Ali so perhaps it wont be a problem in Mississippi and South Carolina ?

Why doesn't the UK fix it's immigration laws?

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

I think so. Even if only 0.0000000xxx of the population is Muslim, all of them use the same name - Mohammed. No imagination.

What's wrong with Mo? They're already naming pubs after Him [pbuh].

They will hunt you down - remember the danish cartoon guy - he lives in a concrete bunker

The UK has tried to fix its immigration laws but they are patheric

Instead of having a permanent residence, they are now 'probationary citizens'

...and now they have to learn English to the same standard as the USCIS -

" Yes, thank you very much. It is a nice day"

In 10 year's time, the US will be flying drones over Leicester and Luton

When I got my wife a UK green card it took 20 mins in the British Consulate in Chicago - she walked out of the Wrigley building with free health care for life

Hunt me down? For what? It ain't my bar. :hehe:

Hey you are definitely in the cross hairs as a propagator of that which invites the wroth of alli oop and the alli oop band. (Peace be up his canyons - and up yours)

Messing with the name and mentioning the devil alcohol in the same sentence ?

Don't plan any vacations to the Khyber pass until you have had plastic surgery

Seriously though, I was one of the first people to ever see a Pakistani in England. I saw 50 men walking up the road in single file and holding hands with the man behind, so they didn't get separated. No women at all. Now Mohammed is the most popular boy's name ? If this can happen since I was a kid, one generation, imagine another 100 years.

The high number of black people in Portugal totally disappeared in 200 years as they were assimilated.

In England, a native birthrate of 1.2 per woman when 2.2 is needed to hold the population steady, plus the separatist wishes of the Muslims, means the natives will be replaced - not assimilated.

It really will be northern pakistan and it is unavoidable now - too late already.

English politicians have achieved what Hitler couldn't

Ahh but you posted a pic of it, even though one does not draw the cartoon of Muhammad, simply publishing it is enough to warrant the wrath of these kooks.

Is that a problem? My buddy Mo likes the booze. Yes, his name is Mohamed and he is a Muslim. He's not supposed to drink? Somebody better tell him.

Posted a pic of what? A sign of an Irish pub? It's out there for everyone to see whether I posted it or not. Paranoid much?

I used to have a Sikh drinking buddy. If he was late coming up the motorway, he would phone the pub and get them to set 3 pints up before they called time - then he would breeze in at 11 pm and have his bucket.

He chain smoked too and he had crew cut hair

He panicked every time his relatives came up from Leicester - he disappeared for a week. Mouthwash and turbans were the order of the day.

Sikh's ain't what they used to be. My dad was in the Indian Army in Burma and the yanks would drop enough cigs for a thousand men - 80% of em were Sikhs so he got as much as he could smoke

Now if other Muslims were prepared to adopt the finer aspects of the western culture too, it would ease the social friction considerably

Of course the Saudis go crazy when they get to London and its whisky and hookers - as much as they can handle. Apparently Allah lives in Mecca and can't see what they are up to in London.

That's better than the christian god, who, like the poor, is always with us, even when we are tempted to covet our neighbor's ox

Ah it brings a tear to my eye - England's green and peasant land.

I will be there at xmas and March. The last two visits, I used my Brit passport and I was checked at the UK border both times by a Muslim woman Immigration Officer wearing full bagorama, who handed me my passport without a word

When I returned to Seattle, I used my US passport and the border guard said "Welcome home"

I thought "Too true mate"

Seattle is full of Koreans and Japanese and Chinese and Jimmy Hendrix's family and Mexicanos and it isn't where I was born or grew up - but it doesn't feel foreign and I don't feel like an outcast, separate, different, like I do in England now

Weird that
