You learned a valuable lesson from your first attempt, look at it that way :)

So when you enter with K1, know what they are looking for. If they say "When will you be married', you say something that corresponds to 'within 90 days'. If you say "Oh I don't know...I'm not really sure' then it may raise suspicion. K1 is not a guarantee for entry at POE. But make sure you know what to have with you and what to expect and you'll be fine. They just want to make sure you are not going to circumvent the law.

Good luck!

hi everyone!

im a little worried, what would be a reason for Border control to deny someone to go into the USA even with a valid visa?

NOTE:Ive never been to the USA and my first attempt going to the USA was last year to visit my boyfriend. I had too much luggage uknowingly and did not have a return ticket because me and my bf didnt know our scheduals (but i did intend to come back to canada within the 6months) and from that i was pulled into secondry security for awhile and refused that day into the USA.I had to fill out a bunch of papers aswell. The officer told me if I brought enough ties and such next time ide be perfectly able to go to the USA though, but yet i still have never attempted to go after that.

(P.S im Canadian and was going through the YVR airport in Vancouver)

after that me and my boyfriend applied for a k-1 visa. my interview is coming up very soon and if we do get approved with a visa, im scared being denied by an officer at POE because of my last attempt into the USA or for some other reason. Im dead scared of leaving my apartment and everything to go live in the USA with my visa and then being denied at POE and having nowhere to go or stay because I dont know anyone or have any family where I am, so the thought of being denied at entry terrifies me.

how likely are you to be denied by and border officer even with a valid visa such as k-1? anything I should do or any tips?

A K-1 is an immigrant intent visa so you will NOT have the same issue as before. It is very rare to be denied entry with a K-1 and nothing you should lose sleep over. The vary few cases I haev seen usually involved some criminal charge that was discovered, or some other inadmissabilty issue that was missed at the consulate level. These people SHOULD have never been issued a visa but were...in error and the error was caught at the POE.

ANY non-citizen of the USA is subject to the discretion of the CBP officer, even after you have a green card.

To worry about it would be irrational actually.

I have heard a few stories over the years about people who were coming in on K-1 visas and either wore a wedding band or referred to their partner as "my husband/wife" when being questioned by CBP and got themselves into hot water at the POE. Don't do either of those things (or, as someone has already said, act like a terrorist or try to smuggle drugs in... lol) and you should be fine!

:innocent:
