Alaska is in a bit of a different situation with the oil up here so there's more than a few Republicans we support up here. Whoever gets us the work is who we support. They even give us a list of who they recommend to vote for...it's pretty much the same in most locals I would assume.

And if they disagree with me I am all for that and encourage it, as a matter of fact. Nothing like a dumb@ss for an opponent. But it is against TOS and some people cannot seem to get that.

That is fairly standard to any state. You must be available to work, that is the key. The fact is, you have said that you won't work until the benefits end, thus you are stating that you are not available to take a full time job in your area of expertise. Like any other law, labor laws are preceded by definitions and they do not go by what people make up in posts on immigration sites. (imagine my surprise!)

"Available" for work in Vermont means being physically present or having the ability to be readily present AND physically able, as in "not injured or ill" Alaska may differ but I bet not by mich. Anyone concerned can read the applicable laws online, they are not posted at this site or in this thread.

Refusing to accept work is covered by another part of the law. Making a statement on an immigration website posting board that a person does not intend to accept work does not constitute "fraud" nor is it being "unavailable"

Each week the applicant is asked a series of questions when they file their claim online or by telphone from the beach in Florida. One of them is "Were you able to work and available for work" Press 1 for "yes". Another question is "Did you refuse any offers of work" Press 9 for "No"

If you fraudulently answer those questions and they PROVE it then you are guilty of fraud. Until then you are not guilty of fraud. Perhaps some prefer a system of being convicted in absentia by internet posting board juries. Of one.

I prefer freedom.

Meh, I don't mind it so much. I give as good as I get, and it's always fun going at it on here with someone...especially Rob. I never see much of Brad as far as getting involved in this stuff. I'm guessing Brad works the top part of the forums mostly.

We have to hit "9" for no, fat fingers caused too many errors especially since most of the claims get called in on cell phones with tiny little buttons while the guys are sitting on the beach.

Availability in Vermont has been established as "within 48 hours" So you can be pretty much anywhere.

I swear I am going to take them up on a volutarily layoff one of these years, but they always find work for me to do preparing for next year, finishing up this year. I am not union, I am a "suit" (even though I have no suit) so I am doing things like proposals and such all winter. Paper pushing of one sort or another. I did get to run up to Ottawa yesterday for a meeting so that wasn't bad. Truthfully, the only reason I don't is because Alla and Pasha have been in school. Pasha is still in high school. But when he graduates and gets off to college....we will go south for long periods.
