So I'm currently a Brit working and living in Russia. We've decided that in order to be comfortable with the process that I move back to the UK to complete the K-1. We don't yet intend on applying until June '12 at the earliest. I have a few questions going through my head right now and thought I'd post them hear to see what kind of feedback I get.

1. I am currently married, this is for no reason other than the fact that I had never gotten around to divorcing my wife when we separated 2 years ago - I wasn't thinking about other relationships or ever getting married again back then. Having met someone that I want to married to now, I have started proceedings to get divorced, will that look odd to USCIS or the Embassy at all - having a recent divorce date on the paperwork?

2. Does anybody have any advice about the police certificate I will need from Russia? Should I get it whilst I'm here, or is it best to wait until I have left? They currently have wait times on the UK Russian Consulate website of 2-6 months - is that normal?

3. Is there anything uniquely special about the process through London that I should be aware of? Are they looking for specific kind of evidence of a continuing relationship? We use Skype a lot to call each other - does anyone know a way to access the call logs to download them?

4. Medicals always freak me out, even though I never have any problems. What kind of things do they do? How can I best prepare for the one in London. Should I be talking to my GP to get things ready?

I'm sure I'll be positing a lot more as I work my way through this site, the USCIS site and the US State department website.

1. No

2. Probably best to ask on the Russian section.

3. Waste of time, a few photos should be it, no harm taking what you have.

4. Just the jabs, the rest was minor. Cheaper to get the jabs at the GP if you are missing any.

Hi Boiler,

Thanks for the straight-forward responses. I have a tendency to over-think things which can manifest itself in abject fear of things I should have no fear of.

A couple of links for you here that are worth reading. http://www.visajourney.com/consulates/index.php?ctry=United Kingdom&cty=London and http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/8321-london-medical-knightsbridge-doctors/ check out the more recent posts on the medical examination.

I have found the whole process pretty straight forward. Providing you are organised and methodical the forms are easy enough to complete. Also remember to get advice from UK VJers as all the US embassies have their own slightly different way of doing things.

The medical is pretty much a none event really. Xray, take some blood and quick once over. Nothing too taxing there, and a quick gender check too lol.

If you are not sure about anything, members on here are very well informed and help you out.

Good Luck
