It's not cold to him because he is used to it. Bundle up. I moved from Florida to Georgia and I thought I was going to die. Where ever you are in the US, it is cold compared to where you came. I don't know how long it will take you to get used to the seasons but I can bet it will take you only one winter to get used to it. I certainly got used to the cold within a few months and started to like it because you get to dress up more and I liked that. Just dress warm and enjoy it. There is no other option.

.. if this is any consolation to you, i live up in the mountains of idaho... we get as low as negative 40... but as NoneYa said, "just dress warm and enjoy it"...

... find some interesting things to do - maybe inside the house first ... then eventually activities outside.... there are lots, im sure.... just try to research online...

... thats what i did and found really interesting ones ... and get involved ... the cold is just a factor ...

... im sure you will be fine ...

... welcome to the USA !!!

Sweat pants, sweat shirt, two pair of socks... if need be a set of thermals. I am originally from Minnesota... staying warm is a way of life in the winter up there.

I worry about when Amy arrives in Arizona as it cooler here then in the Phils, in the winter that is, in the summer it is hotter so she will have to adjust to two different temperatures.

if after 4 layer of clothing and you are still cold, put three holes on a black garbage bag and wear it. Just make sure that the black garbage bag is clean. :-)

Winter boots, wool socks up to the knee, jacket normally used for skiing, or wool jacket. I look like the bloody Michelin dude for a couple of months a year. Leggings under jeans/pants/trousers. Arm warmers are a great help for me to keep the main arteries warm. Otherwise buy some of those disposable hand warmers at hunting stores, maybe even Walmart has some. They're great for hands(pockets) and feet(shoes).

Buy a nice, decent coat.

Set up your heater settings on a temperature you feel comfortable with... maybe 100 degrees Fahrenheit if you want the feel of Manila again.

Buy a Snuggie.

Buy an electric blanket and don't get out of bed.

Buy Long Johns

It's all about layering. You need a nice under shirt, sweater, thick jacket, scarf, hat, gloves, etc.

Your first winter will always be the coldest because it would be the first time you experienced it. Next year won't be as bad, since you will be well adjusted by then.

Yup, what they said :) This is Merlaine's 2nd winter starting and it's a little easier than the first (not much tho). Scarves have helped her a lot, along with all the other stuff listed here, because she can pull it up over her face too if needed. She wears the thick cozy socks with her fuzzy lined boots and that works pretty well. There's just not really any way to get used to it really, I've been here all my life and I wanna go back to the Phils every winter too ;)

As I was typing this she got up to get ready for work, turned up the heater, put on thermals and grumbled "hay nala"
