I work for the US Postal Service. You can place your confidence in the USPS. Once the letter is taken from the plane in Manila International, you have no idea what will happen. You pays your money and you takes your chances with the Philippine Postal Service. Usually it is not a problem, but the time frame may be quite long until delivery. Count on at least two weeks for a Manila address and at least 4 weeks for a distant province.

Hello!

I have alot of letters and packages to Manila to my fiance. The best way to ship is UPS. It's the cheapest way to ship. Don't go through the postal service. It might be cheaper but once it gets to the Phillipines Postal Service it will get lost. I sent a simple letter and it still has not shown up to this date which was 5 months ago. UPS can be pricy but it is cheaper than DHL or Fedex. The delivery time is 4-5 days. I know once shipped a package of Christmas gifts last year. It cost me $450 for a 30 pound package. I hope this information helps.

Good Luck

Michael

Yes I thought USPS was the cheapest but I was concerned with the Philippines postal system botching the job. It appears my worries about their postal system are unfounded.

PhilPost has always been a hit and miss for me. There have been on occasion where they opened our letters, I guess suspecting money in the greeting cards. You can use LBC. Even if you don't have any LBC branches in your area. Simply send out the package via USPS to the closest LBC branch and give instructions that you want to mail out the package. Call first to get a shipping quote, so you can send them a money order for the shipping costs. It's usually 12.50 to 14.50 for a Speed Pouch (package weighing less than 2 pounds). I've done this on several occasions. This also works for Johnny Air branches as well.

I sent a lot of items back and forth while my wife was still there. If you are sending something you don't mind losing (a card, a letter, etc.) then it's much cheaper to send it USPS. Like the poster said, it's not the USPS that's the problem but once it hits the Phils mail system it's a ####### shoot. 1 in 3 of my cards was never delivered and it can take ages to get there. I used FedEx once and UPS once as well. Neither of those companies have offices or workers in the Philippines though. The immigration forms I sent via FedEx were delivered but not by the delivery guy. Apparently he got tired of looking for her, asked some kid if he knew her then handed the kid the package and told him to take it to her headbonk.gif. FedEx uses Air21 as their forwarder and UPS uses Delbros so, again, no one is all that "accountable" once it's there. I only use DHL now. They have offices all over the world and have their OWN employees on the ground. I think the last packet I sent was about $30 and it was a large document envelope about half full.
