Apostile for diploma's

My wife was a teacher in Russia and is interested in teaching in the US. The company that does the degree evaluations wants her diploma's with Apostile, from the Russian dept of Education. In checking their site they say you can send the original documents in, along with a notarized copy. (or bring them in personally of course) They don't list fee's for sending them back and companies that my wife has contacted won't ship sensitive documents like passports or official diploma's.

Anyone have any experience with getting an apostile for education doc's once you are in the US?

Thanks,

Adam

The place where I got my documents translated does apostilles for diplomas. Look for a sort of document-preparing clearing house. It is NOT something you can do from the US. I had to go back to the United States to get apostilles for my American education documents. :( If she goes to one of those bureaus and tell them what she needs (apostille for purposes of international recognition of educational documents), they'll probably be able to point her in the right direction.

http://glavex.ru <---this is the part of the Ministry of Education that deals with international equivalency. Also I know Gary dealt with this, and he may have a workaround.

Alla is also a teacher and had her educational documents evaluated by "ECE", they did not require an apostile. There was another evaluation organization we looked at (forget the name) but they also did not require an apostile

Google "ECE"

We sent COPIES of her original diplomas and transcripts with translations. We had the translations done by a Russian professor at the Univeristy of Vermont. Alla does translations also but thought it may not be acceptable for her to translate her own (there was no specific rule against that though)

Ask for the "course by Course" evaluation which is what most universities and State education departments require.

I know some people, who did the translations themselves for ECE and it totally worked.

The only problem is that some universities only accept evaluations from WES, some - only from ECE... Some universities do not accept evaluations - they only require copies of diplomas with translations and evaluate them themselves.

So if the OP's wife is planning on getting a degree here, I would advise to choose a university and go with their requirements. If she's not planning on studying, then I would just evaluate the diploma with ECE, because it's easier.

I agree she probably could have done them herself. She just does not like to do that as she is afraid it will cause a problem. A friend is a Russian professor at UVM so he did it cheap. If the OP's fiancee wants to it herself it would probably be fine.
