Hey guys I only have one month before I leave for Vietnam for my wedding, and I have got most of the paperwork done which is (Affidavit of Single Status, Certificate of No-marriage Records, Passport, Application for marriage registration, Power of Attorney, all got certified by a Notary, Secretary of State, and translate by the Embassy of Vietnam.) I also take the Physical/Mental Exam but I have a problem since I only have one month left I need that paper to be certified by a Notary but the problem is I can't get it Notarized by the Public Notary because the signature on the form is not mine instead it the doctor and I took this exam with my Family Doctor but the clinic doesn't have a Notary :( so I'm ####. There for is it ok for me to just take the Mental Exam in Vietnam instead? I will submit all of my other paperwork through my fiancee through power of attorney in this month before I go back so will the Marriage License be ready by then? Because I was hoping to sign the Marriage Certificate by then, and can I turn in the Mental/Physical Exam after I take it in Vietnam or do I need to turn that in before they could issue the Marriage Certificate? As for my fiancee side I told her to got get the Marriage Package for her side and she told me to send her 10 passport picture is that true? If so that will be very expensive.

If I take the Mental/Physical Exam in Vietnam will it still be enough time to get my Marriage Certificate even after I submit all the other paperwork through my Fiancee through Power of Attorney. Well I have send all of the other paperwork to my fiancee on Thursday including Power of Attorney. The only thing I'm missing at the moment is the Physical/Mental Exam, since I don't have much time, so will there be any delay on my Marriage Certificate when all I'm missing is the Exam but all of the other paper is already being submit through my fiancee through power of attorney? Will my Marriage Certificate be issue before I go back or do I need to turn in the physical/mental exam too? The first thing that I'm going to do after landing is get the physical/mental exam right away. As for getting one in the US I already did that with my family doctor but when I took it to notarized they wouldn't do it, and there is no Notary in the clinic either. Or do you think I could just go to the hospital and get the exam and have it notarize there and turn it in now. Will that work too? Please some one help :D

Take it easy bro. Are you apply for CR1 or K1 visa. I think is CR1.

Your physical/mental exam in US only legits if your family doctor work in the hosital. Else, you have to take a mental exam in Viet Nam again. It's very simple to take physical exam in VN, and it take less than 20 min. (including coffee-money).

If you would able to stay in VN more than 4 or 5 weeks. I am sure you would be able to signs your marriage cert. before, and bring it back to the US. (Notes: to SAVES time, ask your wife/fiancee to submit your marriage paperwork (at SO TU PHAP)7 or 10 days before you are arrived in VN.

Need more help PM me.

Good luck.

Well I'm staying for 6 weeks, but can I submit all of my other paperwork (Single Status and such that is require for the Marriage Certificate) through my fiancee through power of attorney with out the exam and turn in the exam after I do it in VN? Will they accept and process the file or will they decline and I would have to wait until I finish my Exam and turn it all in at once? Well I already got mine Exam in the US but I can't get the paper to notarized because the Notary say it not my signature so now what? How do I get it notarized then?

Assuming that the province where your wife is takes power of attorney,as not all do, then you can submit everything else first, and submit medical later. Of course, you should have your wife check with stp first, there can be different requirements per province.Medical exam at your family doctor probably wont work for Vietnam, but to answer your question, find a mobile notary and have them meet you at your doctors office. Mobile notaries will meet you just about anywhere,at home or in an office. They will of course cost more as they have to be compensated for their time and mileage.

Of course, getting a new notary would require you to get the notaries signature certified again, should you choose that route.

Ok I will ask my wife to check with STP in here province about Power of Attorney as for the Exam hmm since family doctor won't work then where else can I take them in the US if not then I have no choice but to take them in VN the first thing. Also yeah the notary where I have them they have mobile notary I just didn't know about that after I already done the exam.

The Marriage Certificate take 4 week to process right? If the province where my wife reside accept power of attorney then can I submit all of my other paper through my wife and power of attorney a week or two before I go back and when arrive in VN I could just take the Medical Exam and turn it in to updated my file. Will they accept that or I would have to wait for my Medical Exam and submit all the paper work at the same time?

I am not certain where to go here, but many people have gone to the family doctor and the exam was not accepted. I think it's because the exam is a mental exam, not a physical exam, not a family doctor's specialty. I heard that you can go to certain hospitals, I personally didn't go this route, but the dich vu that I used said that I had to go to a certain place, not just a family doctor.

You can still use the mobile notary to go back and have the doctor resign the form (in general, the signature must be done in the presence of the notary).

1 month on paper...if EVERYTHING is in place. One tiny mistake can easily tack on more time, and depending on the mistake, if the mistake is serious on your single status, then you may have to have it redone in the states. I should point out that a mistake is what they consider a mistake, not necessarily what you consider a mistake.

You should be able to submit everything else first, and the medical later, but really, it's up to the stp.

guess I have to do the Mental Exam in VN then yeah because what I have with the doctor was a physical exam so this won't work. Like you say I can submit all of my other paper first then the medical later then that I will do.

How long is the medical exam good for? Is there an expiration date on the medical exam? I know the single status documents are only good for three months. Does Vietnam place a similar requirement on the mental / medical exam?

Not sure about that but I'm going to do mine in VN because my mom friend have Dich Vu (Service) do all the paper work for her husband but they didn't accept the physical/mental exam so it will be pointless and would be a wasted of money and time as well.

Reading through the threads on getting married in the Vietnam and double checking here :

http://www.vietnamembassy-usa.org/basic-page/legalization-document-marriage-registration, I don't see a requirement for the non-Vietnamese party to bring a police clearance certificate in the application package.

Is it not required or did I miss something?
