Its the attitude that i call Nouveau riche or new money

I totally agree with this... and I also agree that it's not just Filipinos...

However, the change is not just on the filipinos who went abroad but also the filipinos left behind... they treat you extra nice thus the opinion of filipinos from abroad putting up a defensive attitude.

I actually don't mind boastful people provided that they are really great, I see what they are talking about and they really have something to show. I am good at "pambabara" (bursting ones bubble) if I get irritated and I don't care to offend.

I just can't stand liars just to show off. You know they broadcast everyone, they have this, they have that, they met this celebrity and they're close, they paid this very expensive stuff with cash just to find out it's all half truth half lies.

I think this attitude and behavior is constant regardless of ethnicity or race- it's standard, regardless of what country you were born in. Human beings are rarely humble and benevolent.

Yes, indeed...this is true! I have seen it several times and it's not only for Filipinos! I think it is because of the nature of man. That's why it is best to put into practice what we have learned and believe in Christianity. We need to live with Christ in our hearts. The fruits of the holy spirit will abound / manifest us through being kind, humble, compassionate, loving, forgiving and understanding. A true practicing christian -- you see him / her being so humble and kind to everyone. :) God bless to all of us :)

It's easy to end the vicious cycle. When you travel back to the barrio, give the kids the whole bag of chocolates each, and, no hand-me-downs! New clothes with the label and price tag still attached.

laughing.gif you're soo right!.... We gotta start with the kids....

I believe the children are the future.... We should teach them well,... and let them lead the way

Show them all the beauty they possess inside tongue.gif

Oh, I can give you one example, Manny Pacquiao -- he is very rich now, but, the more he tries to be humble! He was once interviewed in TV, he said that "the more we go up, the more we should try to go down" as that is what God wants us to be. When we truly have God in our hearts.... all the fruits of the holy spirit will truly manifest IN and OUT of us, no matter what we have achieved in life. So please allow God to continue working on us -- He is not finished yet. :) Praise God :)

What i notice is 2 fold

Some filipinos even living in the philippines like to put on a show about how much money they have, or the fancy things they buy. They want to seem well off , and are into brand named things heavily

Also i notice some filipinos are just extremely jealous of everyone, or feel they have to compete. Often i talk to people that constantly boast about the things they have or they are doing, mostly boasting as if we are in some competition .

Everyone is saving face, with a hint of jealously

All my relatives, friends, and even former teachers who live or have lived abroad say the same thing. Filipinos, who are already quite superficial and arrogant when they're here, become even more superficial and arrogant when they step on foreign soil. My friends, whether they're in Australia, Holland, the UAE, or the US, tell me one of the things they've observed is that the reason Filipinos invite other Filipinos to gatherings is so they can show off. Fellow Filipino immigrants have asked them questions along the lines of, "I've bought this and this. What about you? What have you bought?" I'm proud of my friends because they seem pretty grounded. They now refuse to attend events hosted by Filipinos because they refuse to compete.

I see evidence of this need to show off on Facebook. An acquaintance goes to a Western country, buys a Louis Vuitton or an Hermes soon after he/she starts working, and posts pictures of the acquisition on FB. My Holland-based friend tells me about a Filipina acquaintance in Amsterdam who cleans floors for the purpose of acquiring enough money to buy an Hermes bag. I find it both interesting and embarrassing. But to each her own, right? If one's sole purpose in life is to buy an Hermes, then let her buy her Hermes, I guess. This need doesn't appear to be exclusive to Filipinos, though. It seems common among people from third-world countries that were colonized by Spain.

Yep. Somebody could make a fortune sewing counterfeit labels in cheap knock-offs, I am just saying.

I don't go to the Filipino events anymore, but the wife does. She made me promise I would stay for an hour at the next event when I pick her up. I am bored with videoki and being forced to sit like a peacock. It would not be so bad if I could drink, but somebody has to be sober enough to drive home.
