Someone may come along with additional advice but I'm going to suggest that you start calling DOS instead of contacting GUZ. Talk to a visa specialist. I tried to call every Monday, Wednesday and Friday but Tuesday and Thursday work too. They can see everything that is going on with your case at the consulate. The hard copy takes a while to get there but they can also be transmitted electronically.

Call DOS and talk to one of Darnell's trade mark Humans.

IR-1/CR-1 Spousal Visa?

Welcome to VJ Mike - I must ask - why you not OPT IN to NVC Electronic Processing?

It shaves off 2 to 5 months of waiting between 'NVC Send Casefile' and 'GUZ IV Open Casefile' timeticks.

Since it's left NVC, the DoS Hotline will be your best source of information, covering the following timeticks:

1. casefile opened at GUZ IV

2. appointment date set

3. appointment date

4. interview letter sent out (packet 4)

So, get a Dos HotLine Human, once a week, till you hear something about #1. Then shift to Operator's Calling Patterns.

Casefiles coming in via DHL sit in a bonded Chinese Customs Warehouse after arrival, anywhere from 2 to 5 months, by Treaty, until the casefile gets into GUZ IV, opened up at GUZ IV.

Thanks for the advices. Since the case is fowarded to GUZ already, is not tNoo late for electronic processing? NVC told me, at this point there's nothing they can do. I'll try the DOS. Wish I found this site easier. Thanks again...

In general, yes, it it too late to OPT IN to NVC Electronic Processing. Sorry.

It may be possible, but you'll only know by talking with an NVC Supervisor on the telephone.

Good Luck !

Explain that the casefile was sent over via DHL,

and then ask if you can start EP instead, ask if possible to OPT IN to NVC Electronic Processing.

DO get a supervisor, though.

Expect an answer of no, and if yes, you'll have to do something about fee bills .. [among other things]

I'll share with you what our experience (K-1) was from NVC to GUZ IV. Ours went via DHL so we expected several months for it to be opened. As it turned out it was received much sooner than expected, however my wife's (then fiancé) address was wrong in the system so we didn't find out for more than a month after it arrived and was opened. Had I been calling DOS regularly I could have saved many weeks of waiting. Hopefully yours will arrive quickly. Don't hesitate to call DOS once a week just to check, it's free and easy.

Yeah. The lady told me, just keep calling. Just wondering, how long did it take for you?

Ours left NVC on May 19 and she interviewed on August 30th. Our big delay was that they sent her P3 and it was undeliverable (wrong address) so it went back to GUZ. In their infinite wisdom they sent P3 to my address in the states via snail mail. Luckily before it was delivered some wonderful VJ member (BobbyA) talked me in to calling DOS and when I did I found out that P3 was mailed almost a month prior. She was able to email all her docs in and we got back on track.

I believe in some cases, I don't know this for sure, they send them via DHL but they also send them electronically. This is just my guess. I don't believe there is EP for K-1 visas yet at least that you can request. Unfortunately for you maybe you found this site a little late or you would have been able to request EP.

Anyhow keep checking with DOS and good luck!

ya, see, here's the thing.

ALL CASEFILES use SAFEFILE, to get the electronic copy to GUZ IV (other Embassies use SAFEFILE as well)

it's some data network that is used at NVC to send out the casefile electronically .

IF IT'S NOT AN EP CASE, and not a K-1 visa type, then the physical casefile is sent out via DHL as well.

Some K-1 visa cases have been lucky, where the casefile was handled solely via SafeFile to GUZ IV, got a really quick turn around.

Some CR-1 paper cases were lucky as well, same reason.

You won't know of yer luck till the DoS HotLine Human tells you of the date that the casefile was opened. When You Call Them.

Good Luck, all 'round !
